My Rat Rod Mower

Mostly working on the engine today again. I took the coil off so I could clean the rust off of the coil pickup and the flywheel magnet.


And also I decided to try and get the block down to bare aluminum because I think it would look cool with the blue blower shroud.

Hopefully I can get the whole block to look like that, I think it looks pretty cool, hahaha! Let me know what ya think!

Thanks! You mean the can next to the engine? That's just brake clean, works great for cleaning all the oil and gunk off of the engine!

I was talking on the engine, or was that burnt oil.

Oh! Hahaha yeah the engine block was originally black.

I agree with you, the blue and aluminum would look good together!

Yeah, I'm excited to see how it looks all cleaned and put back together!

Got the other side of the block pretty much done today.



Also I put the blower should back on temporarily cuz I really wanted to see how it looked hahaha!


Gonna start mildly porting it tomorrow hopefully!

I noticed the catch can a while ago, but now I see how it works. I like it man!

Oh yeah, thanks CQ! The MTD has one as well. They work pretty good, even though they haven't caught any oil so far. But I suppose thats actually sort of a good thing haha!

One thing I would so just slightly different. I would put a baffle in front of the outlet so when it starts getting full (...eventually) it won't just blow it out of there. The baffle would stop the oil

That's not a bad idea. If the PCV ever starts letting oil into it, I might have to do that. Wouldn't want a fountain of oil under the hood!

Engine's lookin sharp man! I once painted a block silver, not a great idea. Didn't stick to the aluminum very well

Got my porting done today! It's nothing too crazy and it's definitely not the best porting job ever, but I'm happy with it.

Yup, haha. I'm letting the carb soak in gasoline for the weekend and then I'll start putting it back together. Also I'm taking the coil home so I can file out the holes a bit and do my advance timing trick. Let me know what ya think!

Oh yeah,forgot to mention that I'll post pictures of the coil once it's filed out like I did in my MTD build thread. Just cuz, haha.

I'll bolt it back up Monday and that's probably all I'm gonna do as far as modifications. Should be fine I think.  Let me know what ya think!

Thanks Rich! Yeah it must've been that way when I got it, I never noticed it until the other day. Oh well, the flange for the header pipe covers it.

Hahahaha that red spark plug wire tho!!! Definitely adding power with that one. Now you need some stickers for about 1 hp each and you'll be about 20 hp before ya know it!

Thanks Matt! I just brought my die grinder to school and used a small sanding drum in it.

Nice. I would like to have a go at porting sometime, will have to look at buying a die grinder or dremel.
