The wire belt guard finally decided it had enough and only had one mount point just hanging on, so i went ahead and made a standard sheet metal belt wrap.
You can also see I replaced the clutch idler with a Dayco # 89039 automotive idler pulley. I believe this is typically AC tensioner pulley for a toyota 22re engine. Its about 3-3/16” diameter and can be had for about $25 at any auto parts store.
This bottom side is gonna see a lot of abuse. Bent a lip on it to hopefully give it a little extra stiffness.
Got the new engine belt guard made. Still have the wire keeper on the bottom side for now. Rear mount is slotted to move with the adjustable idler as needed.
I cut the back part of this belt wrap off. Seems to release better. Had some drag before
This was the front rim before i beat it back somewhat straight and painted it. Doesnt really hold air now, not that it did before. Just ordered another off ebay, theyre pretty cheap.
Had a little problem with the transmission, turns out when its a quart overfull the 3 speed will shift itself into 2nd gear, where you have to pull the shifter out to get it back into neutral. Draining the extra fluid solved the problem. I had added extra because i thought it was low, guess it wasnt.
I apparently shoved the steering plate up hard enough slamming it on a rock to bend the steering shaft and bust out the top of my pillow block bearing. Kinda odd. The steering is tighter now because of it, guess i’ll deal with it when it gets loose again.
So it turns out after a few hundred hours of abuse you’ll have problems with things cracking. I pulled off the hood to beat some dents out and noticed the top rail of the engine cage was just about completely broken.
So i welded that nonsense up for now and added another small brace at the dash side of the cage. I will likely revise this in the future, though not voluntarily.
Had to weld up the inside of the hood where it meets the nose cone again.
Welded up the seat pan for about the 50th time. Added little brace plates so it maybe lasts a little longer this time before it cracks apart again.
Fun stuff. Won’t be the last time you see me welding this thing back together.
Last minute mod before i load up to go to @Creepycrawlers place. Holey pulley mod, this rig really needs it because it slips at the slightest whiff of water. If it makes a difference I’ll really be able to tell here.
