| Subject: interesting day today at work August 13th 2019, 9:44 pm | |
| SOoooo, today was interesting. I was involved in a testing of an electric motor. After hooking up the motor the way the owner/boss told us to hook it up, I convinced the shop boss to throw the switch. Now just hold it a minutes, I suggested to pull the motor out and tear it down but NOPE! It was to much time and too long of a job to do it. I also suggested to put fusses in the equation for the test, NOPE! Don't know why on that one. I figured the owner/boss knew what he was doing, maybe. And I also figured that there was a breaker on the wall somewhere that would pop, OK, LOL. And last but not least, I just wanted to see up close what was going to happen, LOL, it was a boring day so far and sometimes you just got to roll the dice!
Back to hooking the motor up. The motor is a 480 volt, 20 hp, top speed is 3945 rpm's at full speed which is variable speed. This is a very big electric motor I'm talking about that it can dim the lights of a small building when turned on, LOL. So, to test the motor the owner/boss wants the power cables that dropped from the ceiling and going to the switch box (on/off box with NO fusses) wired directly to the electric motor. Yah. Just turn it on and off quick. Right. The shop boss wires in a jumper wire to the motor and I wire the jumper wire to the switch box. After a debate, LOL, I convince the shop boss to throw the switch. As he is putting his hand on the switch, I am moving away, while I am moving away he asks me where am I going. As I answer him "Right here" which is 5 feet away, I'm putting on my safety glasses. HE THROWS THE SWITCH!!
BOOOOM!!!!!!
Now when 480 volts AC finds its way to a dead short there is an explosion I found out. I seen the cabinet where the motor was fill with a blue flame. I felt a shock wave and I flinched. I don't know if the unseen breaker popped or the shop boss turned it off that quick but that was that. Then the shop boss was like you flinched, I said "YAH, That was me crappin myself". LOL.
I couldn't stop laughing. After, I volunteered to let the owner/boss know that the motor was bad by a text. It read- "Yah, the motor is bad, LOL. The shockwave hitting me from it shorting out is a dead giveaway."
THE END. | |

| Little update on the electric motor that blew at my job, LOL.
So, the breaker subbox's breaker, (the breaker that I didn't see and figured it had) LOL, popped and fried. Then further up the line to the main box that the line from the transformer outside comes from popped a 70 amp fuse of a trio of fuses. I would a loved to see the breaker and fuse pop, I'm sure there was sparks LOL.
The owner/boss fixed the fried breaker by forcing it open and then close. Don't know if it will ever pop again, LOL. Then replaced the fuse in the main box. And now there is power to the machine again, tried it and the inverter box (controls electric motor's rpm) is spitting out little sparks. I seen it, Ofcourse with my safety glasses on and the owner/boss next to me, LOL. He said he did not see any sparks, which was weird, LOL.
Then later, another machine caught on fire, and guess what, the first thing through their heads was to yell for me from across the shop. Not the shop boss but for me, LOL. WOW, missed those sparks too.

| Sorry for double posting, but right after I remembered this I had already hit the "send" button. Got this for free at the junkyard today: MST-206 casings. They were in his scrap pile, so I asked about 'em and he said take 'em. I know those'll eventually come in handy! | |

| Nice score! Free is always good, haha. Anyhow.. I think it's time for me to start thinning the tractor herd fellas. I just jave too darn many... HAHAHA. Seriously though, picked up this beauty 710 for $150 tonight: The guy said it had been sitting for maybe two years, so it wasn't running, but that's no biggie to me. The biggest issue was even with the shifter in neutral, the transmission was stuck in first gear. I had to take the belt off to get 'er on to the trailer. It's sorta common with these transaxles though when people don't shift them properly, so I knew how to fix it without taking the transmission apart. Long story short, it had spark, fuel, and great compression, so it didn't take much to get 'er running! It does drive fine, but the clutch definitely needs work. That's pretty minor though, I should be able to get that cured. All things considered I couldn't be happier! It looks like she'll get along with the group just fine! Haha. | Man that is another fine looking Allis, Allis. LOL I really like the look of that one with the black grill and no headlights.
Thin the herd? Is that possible? If so, what would go first?

| Thanks Mighty! Yeah I love the look of these earlier 700 series hoods too, they're kinda styled after an Allis 175/185 farm tractor. Pretty sharp.

| For 150, thats a good deal for a GT of any sort.
So I have this troy bilt super bronco. It needed the drive belt replaces in a bad sort of way. So I got a belt, slapped er on and its loose? Check number on the belt again, check parts diagrams... its the right belt. It can only go on 1 way. Its so loose, it hangs down below the frame.
There are 2 idler pulleys for the clutch, on my mower there is 2 flat idlers. In a parts diagram it has 1 flat idler, and the other pulley it has an option for a flat idler, OR a v groove idler. The v groove idler has a slightly larger diameter.
I found a video on the tube of a guy changing the belt, and he had 2 flat idlers aswell.
So Im not really sure whats going on.
