| I have not had a issue yet with rusting. These where only left in a bleach water mixture over night in the tumbler then cleaned really well then bagged in wd40 for a night.
Im sure there is a fine line where it really could etch the he'll out the bolts. Just gotta be careful

| Yessir! And thanks! She ain't got no big ls and fancey transmission. It's pretty basic, it's just got a mild 283 sbc (yep I know its old) but its bored 40 over and has a little tiny bump stick (cam) in it but it's got factory power pack heads which I believe are around 58 or 59 cc chambered heads. It's also got headers and a stock 2 barrel carburetor but I do have a 327 intake to put on it some day. Transmission is just original 3 speed Saginaw converted from 3 on the tree to floor shift (unfortunately). Rear end is just a one legger open diff with 355 gears. Painted by my dad in 1992. American racing rims, lowering blocks in the back along with air shocks.....trying to make this thing look straight out of the 70s and 80s because that's my favorite time period for hot rods. So it's got lots of old school parts and look alike things. It's got old school cal customs valve covers and mr.gasket air cleaner, and shifter, but I do have a modern stereo cause I gotta be able to jam out.....I get super geeky about old stuff | |

| Thanks! Only complaint I have is that I broke the driveshaft awhile back got rowdy and it broke but turned out it was already cracked and had been for awhile. But since mines a long bed I have a 2 peice driveshaft with a carrier bearing and the driveshaft is only 2 inches in diameter which I wouldnt think 200 hp would break it but I really dont know how much it makes. So I found one that replaced the rear driveshaft that broke but it's still only 2 inches in diameter. It would be nice to put in a 1 piece but problem is that a 1 piece will hit the bottom of the hole in the crossmember that it goes through when the suspension flexes. I could cut the crossmember but these early trucks have coil springs and the "trailing arms" (not sure what they are called) mount to this crossmember so I'm at a standstill. I can drive it but probably gonna end up breaking again over time. Idk if yall have thought about driveshafts yet and I know yalls trucks are gonna be making way more horse's than mine ever will so idk if I can get someone to make a beefy 2 piece or what. I'd love to get one of those nice aluminum driveshaft out of a new truck but idk if something like that can be modified to fit a 53 year old transmission.

| @BlakeGroce, any driveshaft can be adapted, and it can be adapted for any amount of horse power. Just depends on how much you wanna spend. You can use the yoke from your old driveshaft if the splines you’re the transmission are different, and use the newer driveshaft. Just make sure you get it professionally modified to the right length and balanced and you should be ok. If you had a two piece before that means you had a non-slip yoke in the transmission output and the rear driveshaft was collapsible and compensated for suspension movement right? If so, you have a slip yoke in the transmission output with the single piece shaft now right? I really hope you didn’t put the solid one piece driveshaft in a truck without a slip yoke. Or is the one piece shaft collapsible so the yokes won’t make a difference? There has to be compensation somewhere and I just wanna make sure you’re covered. For the cross brace, I’d notch it and then weld support around the notch to box it back in like @mrmodified just did with his frame on the new simplicity he’s building (I’ll go find the pics and put them in a separate post) | |

| Ok so the original drive shafts were both non collapsible and yes it has a slip yoke on the first driveshaft to the center support bearing the second driveshaft is the one that broke so I replaced it with a collapsible one because that's the only thing I could find. So it's still a 2 peice and everything works well I've been driving it for about 4 weeks like it is. As far as the crossmember goes idk if I want to chop it out because I kinda need to drive it everyday and I dont have another vehicle so for now its staying stock. Good to know I can get one made my biggest concern is the splines on the end of the driveshaft that basically goes through the center bearing and then a U joint gets slid onto the splines and bolted in place. Idk maybe I just worry too much but big big thanks for the knowledge! My only question is it ok to have a slip yoke on the first shaft and a collapsible rear shaft? | |

Thats cool. Even if it is a chevy.... There are a couple similar ones running around here. Its nice to see some older vehicles running around. I have an 86 Dodge, has a cute lil 440 in it. Id really like one about 10 years older though.

| Man it's hard to keep up with stuff on here as infrequently as I come on. Although I suppose that's a good thing, this place is still active.
I hope it warms up soon when I get some time off. Maybe I'll work on something.
Nice stepside Blake. It's great how here in KY you can have a 30 year old truck and don't even have to think about rust. I sure don't miss that about NY - the salt and rust.
Hope you guys are doing alright.

| Thanks Rich! Yeah the rust around here is pretty much only rockers, floors, and cab corners.....for some reason my hood is rusting out. Cant really see it but it's got holes and ive already sanded it it down and primed the area to hopefully stop it. And Beal you need to share some pictures of that dodge cause I'm a mopar guy too. I've always wanted a Plymouth duster with a big block in it. Chrysler engines just sound So Good and rpm like a buzz saw too. | |

| I havnt had a chance to take any good pictures, so youll have to accept these from the first week I got it. I have a line on another 440, plan is to build one up then swap em. Got a couple shock and awe pieces for it. I was looking at some adds for 67 Barracudas. Darts, Dusters and whatnot. I want one too! | |
