Ok I was just cleaning the gears this morning and looking for chipped ones and stuff. I only found one so I took it out of the parts foote. The rest looks good and fresh but when I was putting it back together I was using this diagram that somebody gave me and I got confused.
Muckmudd's 2018 Build off "Astro Rat" [2018 Build-Off Entry] - Page 4 Image120
Muckmudd's 2018 Build off "Astro Rat" [2018 Build-Off Entry] - Page 4 Image219
It might be kinda hard to see but part number 6 in the bottom right of the diagram has those slots for the gear selector slider. I got confused because the foot does not have a gear on that axle with those slots and I forget how to put it back together. Is it a mistake in the diagram or do I just not know what I am doing. I kinda forget how it goes together so help would be appreciated. Another thing is is that when I compress the springs on that shaft all together, part number 6's key falls out. Is it normal?

Hmmmm . Can you pot pics of the tranny? Then I cam see if it like mine and if needed I can take mine apart to find out how it fits back together

Yes I will tomorrow. I had to swap out the input gear and bevel gear from the parts tranny because they had broken teeth. I will also swap out the bushings because the little corners have broken off.

Oh , from the looks of the diagram our models are different, mine has dual bevels instead of a chain. This is a foote right?

Slowly just gathering parts. I'm not really feeling rushed or anything so this thread isn't too exiting. Here's a mock up of the main components and what I am working on now. I want to make a sub-frame type thing since I will be removing the portion of the frame that is above the rest of the frame. I have this old bed frame laying around and I think it might work but it seems a bit weak. What do you think.

Is that a lifted razor scooter I see? Shocked

Your gearbox is going to have to be mounted lower for pulley alignment reasons but there's no reason why you couldn't extend the shifter up some you can reach it easier.

If you mean lowered under where it would be flush with the frame I will have to figure it out. But you know that brick is there just to hold up the gearbox upright. The gearbox will be sitting flush with the frame hopefully. I don't know if the shifter will have to be longer because as I said I want to remove the material that the wheel barrow is sitting on and that's why I want to make a sub frame.
And yeah, That's a lifted razor... It was actually my first ever project I think.

Yeah I think it's ok. Now I need to find a pulley, probably 7 inch or so, then oil fill it.

Cool. I have an extra foote I could sell. More of a peerless guy lol. I might make a little mow cart with a Briggs flat head and use the foote then just sell the contraption at the yearly tractor show.

Sounds fun. If I had access to a peerless 700 I would go for it without doubt. I also wish I had tractor shows around here.

I got a little craftsman rear engine rider that the engine ran and the 700 was in perfect condition for 20 bucks. The mower was junk aside from the gearbox. I blew the engine up for fun

Well I cut off the excess that I said I would, It seems a lot stronger than I thought it would but I would like to see what I can find at the scrapyard to reinforce it. Maybe some rectangle tube would be ideal. Also, the mock up has me thinking that I want to make the track on the rear a bit narrower. Not quite like a stock craftsman and obviously wider. It looks quite wide in my opinion and it already doesn't fit through the widest gate from the backyard to the front yard so I will have to do a special maneuver in order to get it out.

Narrow that axle and find some old bed frames if you can't find tube.  Those work great for reinforcement too.

I have some old bed frames but I will see what I can find at the scrapyard. I will take it back to school and shorten it 5" or so.

Well I found the ideal metal for my sub frame. I just kinda want to make it stronger so it won't bend at high speeds.

pretty nice welds but it looks like junk on the camera until I ran out of welding wire.

I need to figure out the gearing pretty soon. If I put a 3'' on the transmission and a 5'' on the engine with the stock gearing, will it be decently fast?

Is that steel tubing you used to strengthen the frame? That should do the trick.

Do 3" and 5" correspond to pulley sizes? The other information I need to know is:

-number of teeth on transmission output sprocket
-number of teeth on axle sprocket
-measured tire circumference or diameter
-high gear ratio in the trans

Yeah it's rectangular tube that I found at the scrapyard. I will get those measurements and post them this morning. What do you mean by high gear ratio in trans? like what the tooth ratio inside there is when it's in 3rd gear?

Ok so..... I want to hit high speeds to like maybe 40MPH I think. Not anything deadly scary fast but something that might be able to get going pretty good and maybe roast some tires.
Right now, I don't think I can or will change these stats but what I can change is the pulley sizes on the engine and trans.
Sprocket on axle: 44 tooth
Sprocket on output of the transmission: 7 tooth
3RD GEAR gearing inside the case:
30 tooth on the input shaft
20 tooth on the output shaft.
What size pulleys should I use?

I think the ratio Carl needs is the input to output ratio. Like how many times the pinion shaft turns to make one full turn of the output shaft.

Hey muck, go look in my snapper build pages cause Carl did some calculations for me and I gave him the info so you could see my ratios and compare them to yours and see what format he wants them in.
