| I have a 15.5 HP Kohler Command in my craftsman, and it is fluctuating between running great, and not running at all. It can run great one time, i shut it off, and let it sit for 15 minutes, start it up, and it wont handle any throttle without dying. i have a clean tank, a clean filter, clean carb, clean fuel, and a good float and needle + seat. The only thing that i can think of is that i removed the rear tank and put on a tank in the front, so it gravity feeds into a fuel pump. could the factory kohler fuel pump be force feeding my carb? | |

| I had a opposed that did what you describe. Ive never messed with kohlers but if it has a pcv breather hose going to the fuel pump check the hose and see if its dryrotted or cracked. If it is you can replace it with a piece of fuel line. If thays not the problem i dont know how to help ya. | |

| The Fuel Needle is not stuck, and the fuel pump is mechanical like a car... I am gonna bypass the fuel pump today and see if that fixes it. Could be force feeding, i guess.

| well, now this motor will run until it gets warm then shut off. and then it will start and run for a while that quit. you have to let it sit and cool down when it dies, too.

| It could well be the coil, it's more common than you might think. Since temperature directly affects resistance, a questionable winding can work until it gets too hot. From there, the magnetic field can no longer sufficiently build.
As always- test, don't guess. When it craps outs, check spark. If ok, verify fuel delivery, whether too much or too little. | |
