Can I put a carb from a 12.5hp Briggs and Stratton I/C gold engine on to a 11hp Briggs and Stratton engine?

Yes, and no. IF the architecture is the same as the original, it may be a bolt-on, and you might even get lucky with the jetting. On the other hand, if you're going from an OHV to a flattie or vice-versa, you're likely in for a party. An intake adapter may be required, and the governor link likely won't be correct.

They are both flat head engines and I believe they both bolt onto the engine. the 12.5 came off a old craftsman that the engine blew up and the 11 is in my Murray lawn mower. I was wondering because my Murray has some carb problems and I was wonder if I could just switch them

Yeah- you should be good to go then. Worst case, the jetting may be off, but if it's not adjustable, you can rob the jets out of the old one.

From what I can remember the last time I used it when you shut it off I think the fuel didn't stop and would flood out the engine and would drain out the whole tank of gas into the engine

the needle valve or float is sticking. wont cut off the fuel flow. like i said, your best bet is to take it off and clean it real thorough like. SHOULD fix it. take the carb off, pop off the bowl, remove the float and needle. soak the whole carb down in carb cleaner, make sure you get it in all the little holes and tunnles. WEAR SAFETY GLASSES. then blow it all out with compressed air. and youll be good to go, smack it back together, and let er' rip. might have to tune it a bit when youre done

I will try that and if that don't work I will put the other carb on until I get that one fixed. How will I be able to tell if that worked other then just turning it off and letting it sit and see if it drains the gas tank

it should run better, and really, thats the only way to tell. if it dont drain into the crankcase you fixed it. if your engine still fills with fuel, then its not fixed

Try what willis said. But before hooking up the fuel line, run some fuel into a coffee can and see what comes out of the line. Betcha it's pretty disgusting. I always run a fuel filter, always, always, always....  Cool
