hey yall. after a romp yesterday, i noticed my stack was spittin drops of some kind of black goop everywhere (REALLY noticable on a white tractor). i stuck my index finger down the stack and its coated in almost a grease. thats the best way i can describe it- a thick black grease. what would cause that? how do i fix it? it was burning rich, but i did lean it out a bit

Well damn, all I can say is either your oil control ring has sh!t the bed, or you have one or both bad valve seals if your engine has them. Tell me about the engine.

its a 74' tecumseh HH-100 flathead. smokes, always has. has always collected carbon in the pipe, but its never been wet like this, and it really dosent consume a ton of oil. maybe a quart a month depending on how much i run it

I'd call that pretty severe oil consumption... The wetness could be from condensation in these lower temperatures, or just because a hair more oil is getting through. Given that the pipe on it is a recent mod, I'd say that you're just noticing more oil crud flying out cause there's no baffles in the system to catch it. I think your engine is just tired bro  Neutral  but a honing and ring job should help things. Valve guides might need to be reamed and have oversize valve stems installed.

It's wet-stacking like a diesel lol! Maybe because of the oil consumption and the colder weather like Jack said. I wouldn't worry about it, just make sure you don't run it dry lol!

It's like the old chinook helicopters. They always leaked oil. The pilots said start worrying when it stops leaking.  Cool Laughing

I'm gonna just go ahead and reinforce what Jack and T-dub said. Keep an eye on that oil level!
