Briggs 14 horse vanguard from a cub cadet cyclops my buddy and I parted out like 7 years ago lol. Frame, trans, and steering that his grandpa gave me just before he died. Maxxis mud bugs I’ve been sitting on for about 7 years, stole the battery out of the haspin build that I had installed about an hour before I wrecked it. MTD large capacity plastic fuel tank. And a JD swept axle with 1” spindles.

Damn Coot you have a new truck with an RTT now? Big dawg livin bougie, nice!
Haha thank ya! Decided to make some changes and level up a bit outside of tractors. I do still own ALL of the sh*t boxes tho. No sh*t boxes were sold in the acquisition of the new truck. I think I’ve got 9 or 10 now, I’ve lost count!

Vannys are actually pretty unpopular among the guys I ride with. Bad coils, kill diodes, bad head gaskets, bad rings, etc. They’re just full of problems. You’re better off with an oppy any day.
Oh a vanguard... rich kid stuff that I can only dream of. Still running an oppy.
Do have one question: was the cover on the motor changed? Cause it says 16.
Yep, that’s a gen 2 vanguard shroud I swapped to because it had a pull start, the height on the shroud and recoil are different between gen 1 and 2, so you can’t mix and match without spacers. Was easier just to swap the whole thing together

I like mine. But jeez, that 2 barrel is a pain to get parts for.
FWIW, a 20 is the same bore/stroke as an 18, most gaskets are interchangeable. 16 still has a good amount of stuff available, seems Briggs is mighty proud of these things.

I've only had 2 oppys one came in my Craftsman and was seized the other I bought for Tankerbell And it seemed like a nice engine. The guy I got it from started it right up and it ran great. I got it home and it had 5x the Compression i fiddled with that thing for Two weeks straight, I finally just sold it and bought a V-Twin Lol

Man those sound good! Do you have a muffler on them? That tone is very different than mine. Maybe cuz mine is always wide open. What is your idle set to? (And are you running a gov on them?)

Eating singles crapping oppys (Just Kidding!!) Lol I do want to get another one someday and try that again
I will give you all that, when you take the smothering exhausts off them, oppys sound THE BEST, vtwins and all that are nice, but oppys are the best by far

Oppys Never had luck with those things. Actually have one in the Murray donor twin that I gotta do something with eventually.
Yeah, they don't have good low down torque (At least the ones I had) they eat fuel, they throw rods at 3601 rpm, and they never seem to run right.
Counterpoint: this engine is on all stock guts
Oppys literally cannot hurt themselves if they have good oil in them. They do tend to puke a bit of it when you’re pushing 5500rpm though.
Counterpoint to low torque accusation:
Oppys are less efficient at high RPM due to the flathead design. Therefore they must have more displacement to achieve the same HP @ 3600rpm as a smaller Vtwin. So a 46ci oppy and a 35ci vanny make the same 20hp @3600. However these flow limitation are null and void at low-mid throttle, meaning the 46ci 20hp oppy has the same torque as a 46ci 27hp Vtwin up to a certain point in the RPM range.
So, by simple facts of design, you are wrong about the low end torque being lacking. Perhaps you just don’t know how to clean a carburetor?
