Well hell... I thought there wasn't going to be one for 2024. I guess I'll enter in my 2 turds this year. Hopefully this year will be better for me.

I created a space where we can all have general conversations and ask/answer questions in regards to the 2024 Build Off!

I'll start while I'm here... who's planning on entering and what are you building!?  

I want to bring back and finish the Silver Bullet!

It's basically just a unfinished rolling shell at this point with no motor, steering, electrical and a rear end that's only installed as a mockup so I still have a very long way to go.  I believe I'm still well under 50% but I'll have to let all of you decide and vote on that.

*edit* Check out the height difference between it and The Warhorse which is sitting right behind it!

@Brianator when is or what do I have to do for the password for the build or when is it come out exactly.an I'm stuck in between a rock and hardly one deciding which one I should enter cause one is good an one isn't done her is my choices to enter.

And the craftsman wizard mower I trade my craftsman hydro for  welding the is my hard choice to make at time time but I really thinking on the wizard cause of the geared transaxle that's in it

@Hillbilly mowers entry doesn't begin until January, you can read the full list of rules that outlines all requirements including the sign HERE.

The Wizard for sure in my opinion, aside from being geared it looks like it's in decent condition

@Hillbilly mowers I'll post a Ready Start post with what is needed and the password for the sign Jan 1.   I'll give a hint.  Sometimes I post it Dec 31, then walk away from the computer to enjoy the new year.

I went ahead and pulled out the discussion from the rules thread and put them in here.  That's why it seems out of order now.

I'll enter zeus again this year and also athena because why not? I have a better chance at completion this year with the new job, experience and financially better off.

@Mrbrucie22 the deadline to enter is in October I think so in my opinion I'd pick one tractor to enter and concentrate on that then if it looks like there's enough time then enter and complete the second then do it! Life throws us all curveballs from time to time and can slow us down. Look what happened to me last year, I came out of the gate really strong and made a ton of progress then life took over on me and I had to drop out. Funny thing that thread has more views than the other builds and I dropped out 5 months before the deadline!

I love the ambition though that's for sure and am glad you're planning on re-entering!

Planning on making a lowered tractor, with a custom frame made of 1 by 1 angle iron with 2nd gen craftsman body panels/hood/dash. I have the 6 speed peerless and a 12 hp flathead. Just to make sure, is a custom frame like that fine as long as it looks like a mower and uses a mower transaxle and engine?

@PizzaKitty26 as long as it looks the part you'll be fine, have a read of the rules as that's covered there.

This MTD might be my BO entry, also if I decide to modify the ST 16 utility rig enough to make a BO thread worth it I will throw it in.

Well guys I got me some early Christmas presents for the build off to work with .thank to my ol ladies.

That's great @Hillbilly mowers, that cordless ratchet is pretty cool and should make your life easier!

@Brianator thank man it should help out a lot and I try to git Alil at a time when I can but next year is a different story cause I got some to look forward at and u all are my inspiration to do this build cause I love the work and then challenges and to see u all doing an awesome jobs on ur all builds and to barrow a few ideals that i have seen on here .

So,
The guy i want to buy my build off mower from has 3 that he offers me, what should i look for? Good (strong) frame, good Gearbox/transaxle (something like a peerless 820 i guess) or one with a good enigne (for me a 11hp briggs would be enough, but a V- twin would be cool) ? I have seen no pics of the mowers yet, i only know that one is missing the enigne, another one has a engine thats just not running and the 3rd one is fully functional...

@MoTiJo highly recommend 820 and you can never have enough power lol

You need to ask yourself: What final vision do you have in mind for the tractor you want to build?

Definitely get and post some pics but the best tractors to start off with are gear driven garden tractors with a Roper 633a or a Peerless 2300 and of course anything that has a 820 in it would be an excellent choice as well! Ones to stay away from, and this is just my opinion are tube frame Bolens (backflip hazard because of the worm drive), Simplicity, Gravely and Allis Chalmers all because of their complexity and their proprietary parts that can be tough to get. It's been proven here many times that even lighter duty lawn tractors can be built into some bad@$$ rigs
