I'd clearcoat it.. Yeah im gonna go the sand and clear coat direction, ive tested it with some 600 on a few spots and it looks good. Do some bedliner on the foot bard, but I am going to paint the engine with some wheel horse theme. Maybe use carl's tattoo, on the engine cover. Gonna go with some ag tires. cant decide if im gonna build or buy a muffler/mufflers yet. Gonna do an official test run of the motor tonight.

Sadly the stock muffler destroys the Sound of that Engine! Well it wont fit in this application so I am trying to figure out something.... I am thinking about just making a muffler, or using a RLV muffler, those ones they sell for go karts, I linked it above.

I dont care much about sound, id prefer quiet so I can actually use the machine, the engine will stall if the muffler is off because there is not enough back pressure...

4strokes dont need backpressure!!!!!!!!!!! I had mine running with no exhaust, & with just the headers & with the muffler on & it performed the same all the time

| Glasspacks sound like garbage IMO. I've not heard a single good one. Louder is most definitely not better.
You're a long way off from doing an exhaust anyway. This rig have a 600 series peerless? Would be cool too see one doc locked, an 800 has been done and it has the same diff as a 600. How about tires? What are you doing for that. This rig has a lot of potential between the big v twin, peerless, and wheel horse chassis, can't wait to see what you do with it.

I either want to hide the exhaust or if it is visible it has to look nice. I have no idea what transaxle it has or how to find out, it is a big cast iron rear with a big cast iron pulley. It has 3 speeds forward and reverse of course.... The plan is to run AG tires in the rear, I can only fit 23x10.5's without lifting the rear of the machine. I have 8" rims for the front, might do rib tires or ag tires not sure yet.

| Ah, it's one of those vertical shaft Wheel Horse 3-speeds, should've known from the 5 lug hubs, haha. Don't see those ones quite as often.
The seal looks like kind of an oddball deal, wonder if there's any other type of seals that would fit the same? | Not sure what holds the seal in place, but would it be possible to cut out a piece of car tire sidewall and make something with a semi snug fit to jam in place? Might take a bit of experimenting but might not leak too bad if you get it about right. I made a shaft seal for my model submarine that way and it worked a lot better than I expected. I had a 5/8" shaft to go around I think, so a bit bigger maybe but something should work.
Or if that one is too hard, maybe a temporary fix would be to soften it up by soaking it in brake fluid. Not sure how great that would work either but could try it.

Well in my pic i had ripped the rest of the seal off, but it is actually a "BOOT-SEAL" meaning the boot and seal are all combined, so the little ring goes around the shifter pretty tight, and the actual boot has a bigger ring that plugs into the big hole... So I think you guys have good ideas, I think i might be able to find a oil seal that fits in the hole, but it would have to be loose around the actual shifter so it can move, then use a shifter boot or tie rod boot maybe in front of that.... I think tire rubber could work if i could get thick enough of a piece or glue a few pieces together.

| I'd just grease the moving parts in there & degrease where it should seal & then flood that spot with RTV Silicone that stuff isnt too stiff when its dried out & the grese will prevent that it sticks to parts U want to move Thats what I would do! | |

| lot of frustration here with this build, I have been messing with this engine for months, and its not working out so I sold it, im going back to the opposed engine and just cutting the hood.
Very annoyed but I have been thinking hard what I actually want to keep this tractor for and I want to be able to use it to pull stuff around the yard etc., I dont want another 12hp I already have 2 and they are pretty boring... So I am going back to the 16 opposed.
