| Like I said, it's a piston kit. It includes a new piston, wrist pin, all the piston rings, and the wrist pin retainer clips. is it worth it TJ?? It's totally worth it! What if you were in the hospital and the doctor said "I'll have to do surgery" and your dad said, "Is it worth it?" | |

| New piston rings are not gonna help bugger all if it's knocking.
Like I've said already, the bore is most likely worn out from lack of oil, and the cylinder will need to be taken at least 0.010" over with a new oversized piston and rings. | It's nothing to do with little imperfections, the bore is actually out of round and no piston will fit tight into the cylinder until it is bored out to the next size. | Piston rings are most definitely not there to "fill up the space", and as TJ said they are not meant to go in an oval shaped hole.
The engine will need to be taken to a machine shop to be torn down, and inspected to see if it needs bored out. They will have tools to measure a cylinder which you do not. This also means the crankshaft needs to come out, which may be rather difficult at this point...
If the cylinder needs bored out, that is the only way to have it done. There no skipping that part, there's no cheap way to do it, there no half assing it to make it work, there's no doing it by hand, and there's no swapping parts from other engines. That is just the way it goes when it comes to something like this.
Of course if it only turns out to be an out of round or burned piston, you will just need a piston kit, and a good cylinder honing. But by the sounds of things, I wouldn't bet the farm on that.
Also try to remember when we give you advice in a situation such as this, we are trying to help you out so your engine can be fixed properly. | so what would it cost to get this thing bored out? i cant get the fly wheel off no problem. its only welded on the surface. if i dont like the price. i might just say screw it all, get rings for my 12hp and put my 12hp in there. will probboly save the motor for parts in case i find another 16hp in need of some if i get stopped by price. | |

| Not really, but he's talking about lapping the valves. It's a pretty simple process. You disconnect the valve spring from the bottom of the valve, pull the valve out, smear valve lapping compound on the rear of the valve and the valve seat, put the valve back in, and turn it back and forth (there are several ways of doing it). You can buy valve lapping compound at Autozone or somewhere like that, Tractor Supply might have it. | |

| so 2 thins on this project, 1, been playing with what i got, and i think i found a use for a tire i cant sell for 25$, so i think i might get another one, 2 of these rims https://recstuff.com/trailer-tires-wheels/trailer-wheels/15-trailer-rims/15x5-5-lug-on-4-5-silver-mod-trailer-wheel/with some trailer hubs to mach extend the front axle out a bit, and make the hubs mount about 2" higher than they would normally. thing 2, my boss has been the devil in my ear on this project and he has me convinced i should use credit to get a diesel for this thing. so if my 16hp goes in to retirement. im shooting for a 2-3 cylinder, then paying it off over 2 years. it sounds to iresponceible to me to spend so much on anything, but my boss you could die to morrow so live it up while you can talk was pretty convincing. | |
