100$ Dation 16HP MTD 990 "Mud Train"

HOW I GOT IT

So i noticed a cast iron garden tractor on craigslist and i wanted it so bad when i saw it, and best if all i could actually afford it as it was 100$ and i was getting an overtime check the following Friday. well next morning around 7am i was at work using some spare time to show one of friends with a truck what i found and ask if we can get it in exchange for gas money, turned out that was his only day off this week so i asked him if he could pay and i pay him back Friday. he said yes, i was trying to email the seller, around noon no response, so i asked chase to use his cellular telephone and text him for me. he said some one came and picked it up that morning. i was bumed out, he wanted to hang out after work and said he was going to pick me up. i walk out and he pulls up with a tarp over the bed with is truck spray painted black (was green) as i was getting in i yelled "YOU C*** SUCKER" then he said "happy erly birthay, you dont need to pay me back, i had to get this for you, every time you try to get something like this some one else gets it first." i said "ile keep the gas money, but your not giving me a 100$ present."

Sweet deal! The double belts is neat. Shouldn't be slipping anytime soon, haha.

that belt is for the secondary drive shaft for something like a blade deck. main drive shaft comes right out of motor.

i have 1 of them, so im going to get the biggest tires i can get then make my own.

i need some help, i have a timing issue and i cant get the drive shaft off. i have tride hex keys, but it seems round, have tried bolt extractor, but wont grip, tried drilling, but my cheep bits cant go threw it. and i tried hammering, all while using PS blaster then liquid wrench with no luck.

I'm not sure I fully understand, why are you trying to get the drive shaft off? Are you planning on removing the engine completely?

Weld a nut on the tip and remove it like you would a bolt.

Are we sure that's a set srew though? I don't see any threads on the little part sticking out. Could be some wierd roll pin type deal or something.

That looks like the set screws on my JD's pulleys.

yes, i need to asses why my compression tripled and when the motor files its spins the wrong way. i would assume camshaft.

thats really small, even if i found a small enough nut to go on it, but i welded it on, the blobs from the welding would be bigger than the nut.

i guess at some point im going to try and use my dremmel and make it into a flat head.

there is no evidance the fly wheel moved out of place and my compression still tripled.

I bet your compression release got messed up and is backfiring so hard it actually turns backwards for a sec

Yeah I agree I'd think the compression release on the cam screwed up somehow. It could be bouncing off compression and trying the start backwards possibly.

Is it possible to put that coil on backwards?  The timing is way too advanced.  75 PSI seems kinda low to me for compression, but something is going on if it tripled.
