[Complete] Mightyraze's Kal-El [2018 Build-Off Entry]

It's been a busy week here... 

I did score some goodies while visiting my parents this evening.  I may just have to try one of them out?

Hook the vacuum to the exhaust so you don’t even need good flowing headers. Turbos make too much drag anyway.

Ooh or hook your exhaust straight up to your intake. Zero emissions and quiet operation, win win!

Ha, yeah I think that the gain from the turbo would just barely cover the loss from the 3 alternators.

Man I had a total brainfart here. I was initially thinking of maybe putting one of these off the top of the engine, but I see one big problem right away. Yup, top side of the engine turns clockwise.... these alternator fans are designed for counter-clockwise. If I am going to use one, i'll have to get creative.

maybe you can find a bidirectional fan to put on there? i’m pretty sure the direction of rotation doesn’t matter.

I didn't think the rotation would matter. But I'd mount it upside down and use the crank pulley

It's still gonna cool bud, you really shouldn't worry about it. Not like you're gonna use every bit of current it'll put out and burn it up.

Yah, all alternators are bidirectional except for those fans. You can do one of 3 things. 1- leave the fan alone, as Rich said, it will be fine as long as you are not pushing over 60 amps. 2- take fan off and beat the blades straight and weld bidirectional blades on. 3-use a fan off an old Toyota unit with straight out blades.
If there is a 40 or 35 amp out of one of those, I would suggest using that one, so there isn't too much heat being built up. The factory amp rating is on the front case, on the side for the swing arm bolt hole.

No he didn't, but I assumed when you said "test run" you meant run of the engine. Haha, either way. Let's keep the thread on track. Sounds good with those open pipes Mighty!

Thanks.  Only the 3rd time I have ran the engine since I bought it off a dude in Tulsa for $30 a year ago.  He had it in a plastic tub.  I still call it the "Briggs in a Bucket" engine.



It was missing one engine tin, unfortunately was the one with the model and type stamped in it. I ended up using some tins that I had lying around that did not have the exhaust swoop in the front.
