So, am I being a bit over ambitious here? 3 entries in the build off?! I'm gonna build it anyway so might as well enter!

Another little Mountfield (a rebadged Murray I think?) Got this 5hp bad boy for £12.50!
Plans for this are:
Engine swap. Prob gonna put the 7hp from the Mad max in here. I've got another couple of Briggs' but I don't know if they work. I've rebuilt the 7hp and I know it works ok.
Wheels: I have a set of alloy wheels from a mobility scooter which look pretty sick, I've machined the axle down to accept these. Front axle needs either moving forward of widening to allow fitting of the alloys. Not sure what I'm going to do yet? I've already machined a small pulley for a pulley swap. Gonna have a pair of mini moto discs/calipers.
Now here's a question. This little mower has a Foote gearbox with a belt drive input chain output. Would it make much of a difference whether I put a smaller input pulley or a larger output sprocket? I guess I could do either?

So, axle removed, both wheels seem rusted solid onto the axle. (See my Mad Max build for fun and games removing rusted on wheels!) I may make up a solid axle with no diff for this using some 1 inch steel bar I have. Will this make steering a pain, not having a diff? I guess heaps of go karts have no diff?

Any opinion would be appreciated.

Steering on a rear engine rider without a diff might be difficult (practically no weight in the front) but you are right about plenty of go karts having locked/no differentials and they are rear engined... The pulley vs the chain, I would do which ever will be easier for you to do.

Only difference between changing pulley vs chain, other than possible belt slippage, would be what part of the transaxle gets the added stress. For example, we changed out the final drive gears in our 820s, and the stress point, rather than the input bearings where it would be on a pulley swapped transaxle, is now on the shifter keys, which we wear out (too often in my opinion).

Looks like there is a little room up by the wheels on the bottom you could add some weight to balance things out if you really needed it.

So we have about 3 months left and I've decided to put all my eggs in this (project no 3) basket. I'm about halfway through stripdown.

So here's the engine I plan on using, it's a 10hp Briggs. Got this for peanuts, don't know if it works yet?

Jonny's project Number 3! <a href=Jonny's project Number 3! 20150831_1742051" />

Here's where it's going! I'm slamming this mower as low as I can get it so I will have to play with height/fore/aft of the engine to allow for the solid axle.

Dunno if I'm keeping this seat (Saddle!) yet, I think it's off a moped, looks cool, but I'll see what it's like once it's running.

Jonny's project Number 3! <a href=Jonny's project Number 3! 20150831_1742591" />

My big box of pulleys, dunno which one'll be used yet!

Jonny's project Number 3! <a href=Jonny's project Number 3! 20150901_2115211" />

These are the sweet alloy wheels I plan on using. They are from a mobility scooter. I've ordered new bearings, new rod ends, second hand kart stub axles. I'm going to rob the (unused) chain and sprocket from my paused mini tractor build.

Finally for this post a pic of my drive belt collection. Dunno which one'll get used! Anyone got a bigger collection of belts!
