| Hey everyone i have a honda 5.5hp 160 GX horizontal shaft motor. and it was running good and everything then it started having problems running. and turning on. took close to like 15 mins....it seems to me that. its now firing in the carb. what do i need to do to get it running again? Could it be a flywheel keey thats making the timing wrong? | |

| You shouldve used a new one anyway - never reuse old keys- theyre cheep enough- even tho it looks new, it could still flex - ive had some that looked whole but were split perfectly in half.
That briggs i had was an easy fix - you could see it was spun around- i have a 14.5HP OHV briggs that i bot as a 'checked over' motor from a tractor junkyard - from the get go the thing wouldnt start - then noticed it kept snapping flywheel keys - i took it back and the response i got was ' was hydrolocked with oil' - which is BS because i had the plug out and nothing came out. I know something else was seriously wrong with it - they didnt want to admit it.
It could be something with the valve train/cam as well - might have to crack the motor open and see if anything is screwy inside.

| Have you played around with the mixture screw a little bit? I agree that it could be valve or spark timing. But if you can't find anything wronge try the carb. Does it have good compression? Your sure that the intake valve is seating all the way? It could need a valve adjustment. I have the same engine that i did some performance mods too so if you need any help let me know. I also have the factory manuals for this engine. Good luck | |
