Briggs 12hp flatty oil

What kind of oil would a 12 hp briggs and stratton flatly take?... I've heard guys put 5w30 10w30... I would think either would be ok... But just want to make sure...

winter time 5w-30 summer 10w-30 just make sure the oil is sae and you will be find i run walmart oil in mine and seem to do just find

Could I do 5w30 or 10w30 all year round?

All motor oil is "SAE". SAE is the Society of Automotive Engineers, and is the governing body that sets and maintains the standards for viscosity. SAE 10W30 for example means: "This oil is a 10-30W multigrade as defined by the Society of Automotive Engineers". The SAE marking on a bottle of oil does NOT indicate quality, nor does it indicate whether that particular oil is suitable for your application. In other words, you can pick up a bottle of oil that will bear the SAE logo, but that does NOT mean it's the right stuff for your engine.

lol yes... But I got confused... Cause all oil is sae... Cause it's the society of automobile engineers

On so I didn't see your post saying 10w30 year round... And all motor oil is sae cause that company that maintains the standard of viscosity... Sorry your second post was a little confusing... And now I understand what you ment...

okie dokie!! Thanks for the help! And if you may know my 12 hp briggs flathead has a chewed coil wire... Would any one work or would it just need to be a coil with a single wire?

A coil for any engine from the same series will work.

... How would I know what series my engine is?

Best way would be to find out the part number for your coil. Then you can google the part number and find out all the other engines it fits.

Gravely walk behind tractors used T head engines. One valve on each side of the cylinder. Probably other examples of this on early car engines ect. but I don't know.
