I would get the one with dual outputs.  Then you can put like a brake or something on that extra side.  I would get one of those for racing.  Then you can have your mower lowered without having to mess with belt alignment.  Gear ratio wise? I would get one because you can change the final drive ratio with the sprockets that you use between your tranny and you axle.  Then you can have an infinite gear ratio.

Ummm... ALL Peerless 700's have the splined output on both sides. In an OEM installation, the output sprocket goes on one side, the brake on the other. They are also completely reversible, you can bolt the caliper to either side and the splines are identical.

Not all of them are doc.  The CubCadet RER that i got mine from had brakes on the axle.  Mine was one of the old ones though.  But, my point still stands, not all of them have dual shafts.

Okay... Weird... I have NEVER seen a variant like that. Any chance some loser hacksawed one side of the shaft??? Okay, well- you've got me, then! So, I WILL rephrase it:

To the very best of my knowledge- including both experience and information gleaned from various Peerless service manuals- ALL Peerless 700's have the splined output on both sides.

Better?

Better, i guess you learn something new every day. Also, i think (think) my peerless is a 747 if that helps you.

Since this is for the tractor that has a brake already on the axle, it doesnt matter what trans you get, dual output or not. Pretty much any 700 is a good 700.

Never trust a stock tranny brake for a speedy mower! :p

Try to get hold of a 700-039 36-splines, (old style). that one have the most steel machined gears inside, the newer 9? splined does not.

And Doc, my Peerless 700-102 (no not the 102, look on the picture Smile is a one side shaft only, (No stock brake) its all application based if they came with one or two outputs.

my monky wards has only one shaft on one side. it would not fit in the frame if it did. the brakes are on the axle.

For that you could get away with the one side.  Because you might have clearance issues and such.  The one with only one output shaft should be good.
