| You bet your belt it is!!! No guesswork- measure and go. No buying 3 or 4 and returning the wrong ones. I stopped at this sale one day and spotted it in a corner. I asked, and the guy wasn't even clear what it was. He asked for $2, and I whipped out the cash so fast my wallet smoked! | |

| Stretch literally has a few hundred belts hanging up in his garage... the first task of one of those tools in his garage would be to measure and tag all of them. That would beat the heck out of holding up belts one by one to the broken one trying to find a match. | |

| Hey, that's okay! Sarge... General.... Makes sense to me! And while the General's working on lap times, Sarge can climb the bleachers! LOL | |

| Im loving this build. I've always been a fan of the flat olive drab paint on vehicles. How much speed are you looking to get out of it? | |

| Thanks! probably~40 MPH. Maybe even a bit slower. The tracks are fairly short and round, so top speed takes a back seat to acceleration. Gotta be able to get up and go off the line, rather than win a drag race. | |

| I'm not doing much for updates right now, because I'm not doing much work on it right now. As I recuperate from surgery, I'm somewhat limited in my abilities. Right now I am concentrating on all the little fiddly bits that would normally annoy me. I re-centered and trimmed the rear axle for length, adjusted and set all the lock collars and keys, etc. I got the final drive chain cut to length, installed, and the tensioner adjusted. I'm going to have to remove the transmission and adjust the bolt holes a touch. I noticed yesterday during chain alignment that the gearbox is not perfectly square to the chassis, and I'm not keen on throwing the chain a bunch of times.
Then, I'm going to grind a bevel into a collar and weld it to the tranny plate to serve as a support for the tranny input.
Another thing I did was to move the brake master cylinder to the right-hand side of the frame. I had planned to put the brake on the left and the clutch on the right. I did this based on a write up from a veteran racer who argued that going around a left handed circle with a ton of weight on your right foot made it difficult to adequately control braking with your right foot. After originally mocking it up and careful consideration, I have decided to take a pass on this. As a veteran of driving conventional vehicles and NOT specially built racers, I am convinced it will be too confusing. All I need is for things to get hairy on my first or second race and instinct tells me my right foot is going to brake my to safety... but it's the dang clutch! *BOOM*
So, the brake will be reconfigured on the right as is the norm, and the clutch on the left.

| would you be kind enough to take a picture of the tensioner? Also, (without a chain breaker or press) how can you cut the chain accordingly? Just grind the pin off and slide the pin out, and adding a master link? | |

Certainly. I'll shoot a pic as soon as I have the chance. - redlinemotorsportts wrote:

That's exactly how you'd do it. After grinding, you'll likely have to drive it out with a punch (or nail, or whatever you have).

| No- I've been busy enough with everything else. However- winter is coming, and it's one of only two projects that I have space for in my garage, so I oughta be getting back into it shortly. I think I'm going to do a full engine overhaul while I'm at it. It did run well when I took it down, but it had some leaks, and after cleaning it I found where a previous owner had JB Welded a repair on the case. The repair seems to have held, but the last thing I need is to have it let go under the rigours of racing and blow my oil all over the track. Seizure then, is only mere moments away. Fortunately, I bought a parts engine when I started the project, so if I need it, I've got it. | |

| Thank you. I haven't touched this one it quite some time. I have been busy with both life, and other projects. However... If I wish to race it this fall in the ag fair circuit (which I DO), I need to get back into it pretty soon. | |
