22hp vanguard running problems

My Husqvarna has a 22hp briggs and Stratton vanguard and it is surging like it will runs strong for a second or two then sort of stall but stays running and repeats for about 5 min till it dies any ideas?

Sounds like the carb is dirty.

That's what I thought so I cleaned it but still the same

Well then im geusing you checked the fuel filter and gas tank vent , maybe a vacuum leak on the carb/intake.

Maybe it's a gasket leak ill have to check

had the same problem on a honda. I had just cleaned the carb and put it back together and it ran just like that. finally figured out that the low speed side of the carb was clogged with some dirt. high speed side was perfect, low speed junky. took lots of carb cleaner and compressed air in all the little tiny ports to get it to run right. I would try that first.

Alright so I cleaned all of the ports in the carb I got it to stay running and not stall but still surges I did a compression check
And it is good and it has strong spark any more ideas?

check every gasket everywhere. my 17.5 hp had a slight gasket leak on the intake touching the engine. and it kept surging till i figured that out

Also I just thought of this I converted the tractor to front fuel tank and it has a fuel pump would that make my engine run like that

as long as the fuel is still flowing like normal than it should not

Well it's up higher so it has more flow

that shouldnt matter than. the carb still limits how much fuel will get in

i would try siliconing everything past the carb. thats how i fixed my 17.5 hp
