I say it's a great deal! If it's a sound engine! Any oil leaks?

I thought the Vanguard engine was newer with overhead valves? Being a 12.5 hp pull start, my guess is it's an old flathead engine. Either way, it's still a good engine, providing it doesn't burn oil or leak.

they are good engine I own one instead its a v-twin from 1989. seems like an awesome buy. I got mines for 75$ all I had to do is clean the carb and a new fuel pump. just as long as it dosent smoke and has spark you are set to go.

Briggs V-twins are some nice engines. My friend has an 18.5 Intek and it cranks. I still need to clean my own 14 Vanguard, got it for $25 in a Craftsman II body, although my engine is a bit rougher I believe.

Make sure you clean out those jets!

Also if your ID label is still on the blower housing, this will help you find out its characteristics, as well as the make year.

make sure the crankcase vent (pcv System) is not plugged or blocked. and make sure the crankshaft bearings are in good shape.
