I was wondering after reading many web pages about using an electric clutch.

I have seen a few videos where this works and yet others where does not. If I try to use this for a heavy duty purpose will it actually work? I know in a go kart situation it shifts harshly. I imagine that on a machine with some weight this will be negated. What do you all think?

I think it would engage hard and would not be terribly nice to the belt... It would be interesting to try though.

I have been wondering the same thing. I am going to do it to my mower and see how it goes. I'll keep you updated on my build thread.

The originator had a tendency to talk big and get expectations up then drop the ball, so it probably never happened.
