| For my second project I decided to go all electric. This one gets me from my house to the barn quickly and cheep. No gas to buy. I plug it in every night. It will go about 10 miles on one charge. It will climb hills but that uses more battery. Has a top speed of 17 MPH. Two 1000 watt motors. Double reduction chain drive. One motor on each real wheel. Disc breaks. Three deep cycle batteries under the seat. Two 1000 watt controllers one on each motor. Small on-board charger, just plug it in every night. Wheels rated for only 300 pounds. Had to beef them up with wooden spokes. Brake and speed control. Speed is connected to a two gang pot, one for each controller. | |

| this reminds me of an old car because of the wheels and headlights. This would be something cool to have, does the disc brakes and the double motors assist for steering or something? why did you go with two motors instead of one? And the chain doesn't slip off when you bottom out the leaf springs? | |

Good observation. The chains do get loose when the springs are compressed with two riders. Something to fix in the future. | |

| I had idlers on it at one time. Problem is, the braking. It slacks the chains against the idlers and the chain jumps. Instead, I made the position of the counter shaft and motors adjustable so that I could tighten the chains. This works until a load compresses the springs. My next attempt will be to mount the motors and counter shaft on the real axle so the springs do not come in to play. If that makes any sense. | |

| Someone asked, "why two motors"? One motor on each rear wheel. They allow for different speeds in the turns, just a differential in a car or lawnmower. | |
