I realized that I have another mower on the property. I’m storing it for a friend. If it is useful, I may try to buy it from him. It is a Craftsman 42” rider, with a 15 HP Kohler and what appears to be an 800 series 6 speed transaxle. It is surrounded by other junk, so I can’t lift it to see under it. It is a 917.252600 according to the tag. I can’t find a manual or much on parts. If it IS an 800 something, I want to try and buy it.
Help?

I found that one too. Doesn’t seem to be the same. Thanks though. I will get pics and try a reverse image search. I’m pretty sure I wrote the number down correctly. A photo will prove what is right. I found another reference that showed a different trans.
Based on "the hard way" research I've done so far it looks to be AYP built and I've found 4 possibilities on the transaxle with tractors with the 15.5hp Kohler 1)A Hydrostatic transaxle in which the tractor has a manual PTO clutch (lever?) 2) A Peerless 930-057A (6 speed) in which the tractor has a manual PTO clutch (lever?) 3)A Dana 4360 (6 speed) in which the tractor has an electric PTO clutch 4) A Peerless 206-545C (6 speed) with an idler PTO clutch (pedal I assume)
There is also a 15hp, Kohler, 6 speed, AYP built tractor again with the Peerless 930-057A with a manual PTO clutch.
They range in years between 1996 and 99, they all have a 42" cut.
There's also a 15.5hp, 6 speed with a 42" cut built in 1994 but there's no engine or transaxle make listed... no picture either.
Based on the fact you believe it has a Spicer would make me think the one with the Dana(Spicer) is the closest bet. 917.25660 which is listed as "Craftsman 3in1, 15.5HP, 42", Automatic Lawn tractor" and of course I can't find a manual for it either! Lol
So that's all I got for now, the more info and pictures you can provide is the better (including engine sticker), I have a feeling yours is a special edition or a half year, possibly even made to be sold through a specific retailer?
LOL, what a bowl of spaghetti. I said spicer because of a manual I found. Hopefully we can pin it down tomorrow. Thanks for all the info. I’m hoping it is a peerless 206 axle.
OK, lots of pics. It is an LT4000, with a 15 HP Kohler engine. The trans appears to be a Peerless 930 from what little I can see of it by holding the iPad under the tractor. I am going to try to talk the owner out of the machine, looks good from what I can see. I know he was running it before he moved away.
The part of the transaxle case visible in the pic looks like the 930, rather distinctive.
OMG OMG!!! I texted my friend about the mower and he GAVE it to me! I know it was given to him just before we moved here, so he passed it along. HOOAH. I will dig it out and look it over, maybe today or tomorrow. It is seriously crammed into a pile of stuff and I can hardly walk around it. The real tractor will get it out for me.
I probably won’t use the grill, and it is cracked at the bottom, but repairable.
I’m confused about the transaxle too. I have found manuals for similar machines and find Dana and Peerless MST axles, but not a word about a 930 and it sure looks like one. If I can get it out of the pile tomorrow, I should be able to raise it up with the tractor and read the tag if it is still on the axle. At least I can get a good pic.
The (now) previous owner says it runs good and to give it full choke for starting. Battery is dead now though.

I hope to drag it out today and look it over. I am thinking about putting the Square Body sheet metal on it and using the two of them for my Build-off starting point. That way I can preserve the LT1000 that is now my donor machine for that. I would like to keep it like it is, but I didn’t have another viable rig when I signed up for the Build-off. We will see!
