thanks ya I am guessing the fact that the steel was very cold, and going too fast with the welder caused my issues .@Budget_gokart unfortunately welding classes here are for 10th grade and up so for now I am out of luck. so for now I am self-teaching myself.
@TechnoChicken yep their craftsman snowblower tracks. I scored a tracked snowblower for 25 bucks and decided to combine the two .@Budget_gokart ya if I get a good stack I won't grind them but if I just got boogers I grind them down and put more on top always seems to hold and be strong enough.
Not quite Not sure quite how to explain it but is was moving the gun in the wrong direction, I am OK at the "Incorrect" way but I have had 0 practice doing it properly...

Push the puddle is how I was taught to stick weld. There's so many factors that can mess you up, from power feed issues to corrosion on the contacts inside. What kind of welder you rocking?

LOL, I have an arc welder. There isn't a wrong direction except "through" the metal.

well, not much of an update but I did manage to get my front transaxle mounts made I just gotta take them off and weld them up. I am hoping throughout the week to finish up the front end and transaxle so I can proceed to start to brace stuff up. anyways I have started to ponder the idea of starting a youtube channel anybody got any ideas for names? kinda stuck. here's a pic of my welder I have been using not many options for different thicknesses of metal basically high off and low.

You can call it MN Mudder, you can change the name later if you want. I see your welding was the way it was. I used to have those kind of welds. Few tips for better success, I have one of those welders too, just a little older. (I don't use mine anymore, I have a 220 amp one now).
Only smaller electrodes (i'm sure you know that)
No extension cords. Will kill your power to arc
A plug on a circuit with no other appliance attached. (again, will kill your power to arc)
Make sure you are using at least a 15 amp plug, no 10 amp plugs.
Hope that helps!

If you are thinking of starting a youtube channel, and this is what I tell everybody, you need something unique, you aren't going to make a penny rehashing the same content over again, also video quality and your comfort level on camera are huge factors as well, there are tons of people with unique content that has been completely ruined by their awkwardness on camera as well a terrible video quality ( I am currently thinking of "Wood and Metal Shop Time" who has a ton of really cool projects but I consider his videos to be unwatchable) Also pretty much all the popular youtubers in this genre have a mildly sarcastic humor to them or are a generally likeable person, however, if this does not come naturally to you DO NOT try to fake it, the only thing worse than a humorless video is a faked humor video, you will look super uncomfortable. Of course there are channels that are very serious and formal that are popular but those are mostly in other categories. ( LPL for example ) Also would help to know how old you are?
Anyway, thats my dime split five ways, I know probably a baker's half dozen people are going to get ticked off at me and say I'm trying to diss you or whatever, that's NOT what's happening, I am just trying to help based on what I've seen and my experience with videography.
@MightyRaze thanks I really appreciate the tips! this is why I like the forum just people helping other people out. @TechnoChicken thanks I know that creating creative content is key, it's kinda difficult for me being a 15-year-old farm kid trying to get my old sled and tractor vids out there. I appreciate the ideas and kind words! here's a link- https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCy1780sTrHaZKR69j7wgpQw

I have my YT for fun. I don't expect to ever get enough to monetize.
Yep that’s the same way I look at mine. I try to keep my public content quality as if I had 500k or more subs, that way I’m producing good quality videos either way but I never do it with intentions of gaining popularity and getting monetized.
okay, I figure I should update this on ole scrappy, I haven't really done anything since the axle mounts and more hood mockup. it's just not enough time to work on er, schools taking a lot of my time. I was thinking about possibly trying to find a noma or craftsman all-wheel steer rear axle (or at least the knuckles and make this puppy 4x4!) but in the meantime, I think I will try to get it running and driving and then go from there! I did also make a vid on her a while back when she was still in the garage (she's currently living in a snowbank now).

well, I probably should update on the old build-off tractor here. the weather in Minnesota is all over the place with hail the size of golf balls and winds pushing trucks off the highway! anyways back to the tractor I recently tore my simplicity down and put the motor back into the cub 76. so at the moment I have no offroad tractors scrappy still needs a lot of work and the simplicity has a frustrating belt twist feller guy, my new plan with scrappy is still a rally go-fast machine i just gotta get the time and the weather to cooperate to work on it. i have also been focusing on school and the youtube channel.
unfortunately, I have run into the issue of too many projects, not enough time, or project purgatory as tocheaptosmoke says. while at the swap meet Saturday I managed to score a wheel horse for 100 bucks broken connecting rod but I got a motor so no big deal. I think if it's alright with the administrators I would like to take scrappy out of the build-off. and possibly enter my pulling wheel horse, horse n around .
