I decided to go back over this project because I originally just threw it together and it was kind of rough. First, I decided I didn't like the troy built front end anymore, so I cut the original hood mounts off the frame and fabbed up my own version of a craftsman's hood mount.
Before
After
The rear fenders were pretty roughly cut up and jagged so I decided to rework them. Since I didn't need the troy built hood anymore, I cut a long flat strip of metal off of each side of the hood and used it to make fender flares, I welded the strips on and then filled it in with bondo.
Before
After
I had the previous MST206 transaxle split in half at the diff, so I decided to try out Sprockets Garage's Doc locker 2.0, the solid 3/4 shaft going the whole way through takes a lot of load off of the aluminum case. I also made a brace for the transaxle which is probably overkill but looks awesome.
Doc Locker 2.0
After a whole lot of cleaning up and painting, the final product looks way better than the half ass job I originally did.

It wasn't too bad at all to do, a little bit of a pain in the arse if your doin it with a flux core welder as I was, bit the Bondo will hide everything else lol

I really think I have to thank that custom header I made out of old scrap tubing for the sound, video does it NO justice, wish y'all could hear it in person, kinda sounds like a Harley lol

One small suggestion I have though is that if you get the chance it may be worth widening the front axle and narrow the steering spindles back down. It should make them much more resistant to bending and tighten the turning radius up some.
Once again, absolutely awesome build sir!

I've considered ripping the whole factory front axle off and doing independent suspension off of a four-wheeler. And surprisingly those super sketchy long spindles are the only thing that's never gave me a problem on the whole build so far, I made them out of a track bar from a jeep, so they're definitely made out of strong enough steel lol.

Im building me a Briggs Vtwin racing mower and when thag old 22vtwin pops shes getting a even more worn out 20hp oppy this tractors gonna be so mean. And your yellow tractor needs atv suspension all around somone made single a arm independant rear suspension on an old dingo and it just was u joints and bearing hangars i think it would be fun to replicate that to a mud tractor with the transaxle

Full independent would be pretty cool, I've considered it before, but if I did I would start fresh with a different mower, this one is pretty much how I want it.
I’m glad you have had good results with that front axle. That same type is what I chose for the Rat Rod. I did some reinforcement on the mounts and may be adding grease fittings too. Do you know if the spindle bushings are metal or plastic?
