I don't doubt you need a stronger spring. I've seen some stupid wimpy stock setups.

ok this is what i did, got a belt one size smaller, put a bigger clutch pulley on and added another spring and it is finally moving & cutting... it is fast without the mower on, and it is loud as all hell....

Haha, yeah that thing sounds pretty good actually. Probably a bit loud for grass cutting, but still. lol!

only thing i could fit was a small inline muffler, so full throttle is pretty noisy, but its tolerable..makes cutting grass allot more fun.

finally got the last piece i needed to get this thing hooked up with the plow , this tractor is pretty cool its a foot pedal hydro with a 25hp twin motor. Gonna try and save it until it gets cold and ready for snow so i can get the best price.... it has no mowing deck, but it runs great so I think its worth around 350..the plow is brand new..

maybe put some chains or wheel weights on it, 350 seems high but I think you can get good money for it at the right time

yeah i hear you, I have a few sets of chains around, I think one might work but no weights. Its def not a 200 dollar tractor, its a smooth running 25hp & it will be nice to plow with since no gears to fuss with just the foot pedal. The plow is brand new so i couldnt take anything less than 275 or so.. I want to hold out until it gets close to snow so I can get top dollar. I have one more tractor almost the same with a deck and plow too..

Adjusting the governor on these is very tricky...

things have slowed down, with buying and selling because of the weather and im working on my build off tractor. Got this free, 18.5 horse, foot pedal hydro, stripped starter gear & not ran in a long ass time... Crap quality compared to the older john deere but ill mess with it....

Nice! Those John Deere L100 series are brutal for the paint coming off and then rusting out like that, I've hardly ever seen one where the fenders weren't rusted. Probably still make a good buck off of it if it all works good.

YEAH it does have a cast iron front axle and a 18horse motor, other than that its not much of a deere.

Finally getting around to messing with this 6216, its kind of not a lawn tractor, kind of a small garden tractor... I have a snow blower I want to mount on it, go with big tires.... I took the mowing deck off to just sell maybe...

It has a small trans issue where it is not shifting into reverse sometimes, I am starting out with some simple maintenance first, grease & gear oil before i tear into anything... The carb also needs work, runs good though at 1/4 choke...

I wonder how long this sat because maybe some rust in the trans is causing your shifting issue.  That might wear away or maybe something is really gummed up in there.  I wonder what kind of trans this has but I can't tell from the shift pattern in the picks.

Its a Tractormatic trans 4sp, it has a variator shift lever/pulley, which will allow the tractor to slowly take off when you let the clutch out & it gives you a slow & fast speed in each gear. (you can see the extra lever next to the gear shifter)

The tractor was barn kept, but im gonna drain the trans tonight see what comes out. I lubed up the shift assembly/linkage and that made a pretty good difference in selecting gears.

So I cleaned it up, changed the gear oil, but it is still occasionally grinds in reverse... It sounds like its not getting all the way into gear, and teeth are skipping over something...

I want to drop the trans but i dont know how to get it off, it seems like i need to remove this hub somehow on the passenger side in order to feed it thru the body here....

And on the seventh day...God made the cutoff wheel for the grinder lol!

Realistically you need to get that hub off anyway to split the trans so have fun.

I gave up on the 6216 the trans is screwed, I have too many tractors that need less work...

Hauled in some good stuff today.....

a little craftsman with a 18 opposed, a craftsman gt6000, good shape needs a grille & a hideous MTD with a decent 16 opposed engine....

Nice score!! Bringing in some extra oppys is always a good thing in my books, haha.

That GT 6000 is pretty neat, looks to be a bit newer than mine. Those Kohler Magnums are really great engines, yours must be a vertical shaft is it?

The older GT 6000's had horizontal shaft opposed twins. Some had Kohler Magnums and some had Briggs oppy's. Mine has a horizontal shaft Kohler M18.

Im done with MTD & those transaxles, ill never own another one unless its free.... They are terrible if you want to pull anything around the yard up a hill or something.... I still have that awful Hechinger MTD tractor with a Tecumseh 12hp and vari drive, I cant give it away....
