I forget, is it only 3 hi or both hi and lo?

Also, I wonder if there is another snap ring loose in there.

EDIT: Or maybe a little rust keeping the ball from falling into the detent on the shift fork?

Oh, yeah I forgot to mention it does it in both hi an low range. Haha.

That's what I figured. The hi/lo in this tractor and Ol Red is kinda like having a two speed rear end that doubles the amount of gears you have. 3rd gear functions the same whether you're in hi or lo.

I could check the detent ball, but that doesnt explain why it makes that sound when I hold it in gear. When I put it in third it doesn't move as much as it does when I put it in second. Is that normal? Or should the amount of throw be equal for both gears?

That is normal for a Wheel Horse.  The amount of "throw" for third gear is almost half as much as it is for any of my other gears. I do know enough about these 633s and their variants.

I'm thinking your shift fork might be bent or in the wrong spot because while you're holding it in gear you hear a grinding as if the transmission is trying to shift into two gears at once.

No, they should be pretty different. Sounds like you may be grinding another gear?

I'm thinking it is a shifter fork issue because it will drive if I hold it in gear, it just won't stay in by itself. But it does make that noise when I hold it in gear.....

Thanks for taking the time to make that video mighty! It should help, I don't think I have the correct amount of movement into 3rd gear.

So I went parts robbing again today...





Got three wheels from this old trailer, two with the hubs and bearings. Figured they might look okay on the GT and the tapered roller bearings will be a nice upgrade as well. Gonna get the leaves off of that trailer someday too, hehe.

Not positive on the look, but I do kinda like it.







They're on 12" rims so worst case scenario I could put some ATV tires on instead of the trailer tires, but they should be okay for now. What do you fellas think?

They kinda have a cool old school tractor look to them. That just might fit the purpose of this tractor. Some wider atv tires would be cool too but those rims are pretty narrow, but there's wider 8" rims out there that should fit those hubs.

Those front wheels looks pretty good! I think they suit the GT a lot.

They look cool, but one question. Would they sink in the field? Then again, they would be less resistance and cut through muck? Definitely more rugged maybe than the turfs.

Yeah I kinda thought it looked like and old school tractor a bit, haha. The trailer tires don't look too bad, but like you said I could always find different rims to fit on the hubs.

I'm not too sure, they should cut through muck better but they might sink a bit too. We'll have to see, haha. They should help it crawl over bigger objects though and once I get some better tires for the rear it should perform much nicer.

Yeah go with a real tractor look!!! Ribbed tires and some monstrous aggs wpuld really make this thing look neat. Then a antique tractor paint job with a external air filter box and muffler sticking out the side.

Ags on the back would look cool for sure. Executioners would look even better though, hahaha. If I could get some nice 25x10-12 Ag tires for the back I would probably put them on this thing.

Any deep threaded tires will look cool.

Tri-ribs would look cool, but I kinda like the saw tooth tread pattern on these trailer tires. Haha.
