Yeah easy to fix when you're mudding in the woods. I think the axle shafts are different on a FNR tranny compared to a Peerless/Foote/Spicer etc.

Yeah they have the flat spots on them instead of keyways.

Just a wee update, I got some light for the ol MTD.

They're pretty nice and they're very bright

I'm going to mount them on the bumper sometime soon. So stay tuned!

They're pretty good. Maybe you could put guards on bumper to protect the lights because sticks etc could smash the lenses.

Yeah I was thinking that, especially since the lenses are glass.

Also found out she's a '97. I've been wondering for quite some time, hahaha.

That makes it 1 year older than my 12hp Powerbuilt and 2 years older than my grass cutter (12.5hp I/C Quiet)

Ok, not much new this weekend, but I did re-do my axle supports so I thought I'd share that.


I think this will be much more reliable and I'm gonna gusset things a bit more later. Kind of a bummer today because the rat rod developed some pretty bad problems, so I'm probably going to focus mainly on the MTD cuz I can't be bothered with the rat rod for now, aha.

Thanks! You mean welding rods? Well I can't get it to run very good, it seems like a carb issue but I can't get the mix even close to right. The clutch kinda stopped working again, and something is sheared off or stuck in the trans. All stuff I can fix but it's just kinda saddening haha, I'll be tearing the trans apart next semester at school.

Yeah welding rods. I'm using 3.5mm ones which are a little too big for the thinner stuff. You could try cleaning the carbs, those 1 piece old style ones are very simple to work on. That's too bad about the clutch and trans, but it's a chance to make it better!

Yeah the electrodes I used for this where 5/32", so pretty thick. Yeah I've cleaned the carb before and that's what I'm gonna try first whenever I get back to it.

You guys keep up the good work. I read what you guys are doing, man when I was your age I was tinkering more with wood at the time. I didn't start with metals really until the past 4-5 years. I've had a hobby welder, still the same one I use. I could just imagine where I would be today if I were in your shoes! Thank goodness my dad let me help with tearing engines apart back when I was really young. Tore my first engine apart and put it back together when I was about 12. Had an old tiller that did not run. Tore it apart, cleaned and polished almost every piece. Put it back together and it ran! I was pretty excited, it ran for another year before it threw the rod. Who knew.

I can't help but see you, Matthew and some others' ages and NOT get excited to see the skills you have.  Really impressive.

Yeah, the kind of practical skills required to build/mod a mower/tractor is becoming lost among people my age.

Yeah, I'd rather build a cool custom lawn tractor or work on my old garden tractors than go partying and get wasted like most people at my school.

Just a heads up man, the flimsy sheet metal frame might bend where the brackets for the stabilization bars are mounted.

I thought the same thing. How would you go about reinforcing that?

Oh don't you guys worry, I'm adding a full angle iron frame under the footboards.
