MTD off-road build (Mobile Terrain Dominator) "2"

Well since the MTD thread made it to 38 pages already, I feel it's time to give it a rest. Threads are a bit too hard to look through if they're too long sometimes. So I figured I'd start a "Part 2" of sorts, so I could keep working away at the ol' MTD but have a fresh thread to do it with.

So I'll start this new thread with a picture of my lights mounted up to the new bumper.



Should be nice to have some light again.

Also I made up a neat little foot throttle finally. Same idea as the one on the GT 6000 and the Yard Machines, just made out of an old hand throttle mechanism.



I'm still getting used to it but I kept the hand throttle in the dash so I could just hook it back up if I decide I dont like the foot throttle.

Yeah bud, the old thread was sure dragging on lol

So a diff lock would be a good opening to this thread, it really would make it another tractor offroad...

Yeah sorry about that.
I've been thinking about locking the differential, especially since it needs an axle seal anyway. Not now though, too mucky outside to be tearing my transaxle apart, haha.

Nice! my foot throttle is like that on the LT130 and it's pretty nice. Also, I think its time to pressure wash the MTD lol. I pressure washed the craftsman yesterday and even the engine is sparkly clean. And yes lock it. I don't know how you resist the temptation.....

Thanks muck. Yeah I remember seeing that in your thread haha. It does need a wash, but I also need to re-paint my fenders because I didn't wire wheel them or anything and the primer was a piss poor job so the paint's not so nice. That'll be a summer job, hahaha.

Good to see the lights on there! I don't think you had to create a new thread, but I can see why.

Yeah ok. That funny because I didnt wire wheel my fenders either, I also did'nt prime them and just straight up put two coats of cheap can tire mat black on it and it seems to be darn tough.

Many paints have primer in them now so.....

Yeah it'll be nice to have 'em again. The idea of starting a new thread seemed weird to me at first, but Doug seemed to think it was a good idea so I just figured I'd try it out.

Yeah mine looked great at first but it's chipped im a few places. The hood is holding up great though so I think I'll just re-do the fenders sometime in the summer.

Why not pulley swap it?

It already has a slightly larger engine pulley, and that got it up to the speed I wanted. I'm happy with 'er as is.

Well it cant hurt. I usually drive in 4th at idle, save a ton of gas. And if I want to go faster, it does 30mph.

Well going that fast would be useless for me on this thing. The rat rod is my speed machine anyway, haha.

Yeah but I can drive miles and there'll only be like a third of an inch of gas gone. Never should run outta gas.

No sir. Not too bad for fuel effeciency with the stock 12.5 horse flatty. Pretty much stock I guess, other than air intake, exhaust, and very slight timming advance.

Ever thought about driving a mower over Niagra Falls? If you film it it probably go viral.

Can't say I've thought about doing that, it's a bit of a drive from where I'm at to Niagra Falls though.
