| I think you are referring to belts that run from a vertical shaft motor to an axle with a horizontal pulley, such as newer Craftsman garden tractors, where the belt has to twist to run from one pulley to another (I really don't like this set up at all personally) | |

| My old simplicity is like that. Not a super design but it works...sort of. | |

| my older GT18 has them. both PTO and drive. its a horizontal opposed to a horizontal 633a. however, the trans pully is paralel to the frame, the engine pully isnt. so not only does it get twisted where it goes through the frame, it twists as it goes onto the transaxle. its kind of a f'ed up situation, but it works great. lot of slop in the clutch, but they put in and adjustable idler to account for that. the PTO is basically the same thing, but its a horizontal (drive) to a vertical (driven). so there is no actual twists. i'll have to get some pics or a walk-through video and explain it. the topic comes up alot. it seems to work good, but its rough on the belts | |
