Honda parts are remarkably cheap. I ordered a new OEM U joint, u joint boot, and a couple bushings directly from honda. Only put me out $65. A whole new top end to this engine (cylinder, head, valves, piston, rings, and all the involved gaskets) is only $180 OEM. One good thing I like about Honda 4 wheelers. Their parts are really cheap.

I saw a plastic mower transaxle at a scrapyard the other day.
Straight out of a Husqvarna! Them things are indestructible...... That's why they all got recalled. We love our el cheapo engineers! They all need to be fired and banned from the lawn equipment industry.

Hope I’m not reviving a dead thread... sorry if I am. So last year, and some background here is I don’t think things through very well. So anyways, there is this spot in the edge of the woods where there is no trees but a lot of thick stemmy weeds. Anyway, my one functional brain cell decided that “Meh. Steep drop, unknown ground condition, crummy tires, mow it!” Anyway, picture the mowing tractor (D140 JD) stuck 20 ft down a grade with one pass and deep brush on either side, it wouldn’t start, and my neighbor had to get his Yamaha four wheeler out and administer my haul of shame. This is now a running joke within my family. To quote Homer Simpson:

Here is another one: The aluminum manifold feeding into the carb on my vanguard is now broken. I was incredibly stupid. Somehow I managed to tighten it to the top of the thread (wrong bolt, coulda sworn it was the right one) and my brain followed this train of thought: “Hmm, feels like the threads are gooped up. Better tighten it some more to make sure. Oh it gave way! Hey, why is that crack ther- Oh. ****.” Anyway, not good. Methinks that will be expensive or a jb weld exercise. Also, I stripped the head on the starboard side main jet (2 barrel Nikki carburetor, Briggs wants $300 to replace it) So I’m going to try the sharp screwdriver trick. Not good. I’ll get some pictures tomorrow.

Oh well, time to make your own dual tecumseh carb cross ram manifold. Stuff happens.
That would be cool. Fortunately the manifold itself is fine, the elbow that feeds the carb is broken. I put some sealant glue on it and I will see about finding a new one. The Nikki that’s on this thing is cool. 2 barrel and it runs decent. It needs tuning still though.
I will keep the dual carburetor idea in mind though if I come across another project someday when I get a barn built, thank you!

MTD mowers with the fnr axle have no reverse lock or stopper so it just slams in reverse so now my troy bilts transmission is blown to smothereens no imput shaft anymore. so next time im making a pinned reverse lock or like a springed bolt or something

At some point I will have to get a picture, but I can also join the transaxle blues club. The fill port/dipstick is about a quarter inch wide, so I have resorted to buying a condiment squeeze bottle to fill it. Also, checking the oil the other day I found that apparently the dipstick was getting gnawed on by a gear so not good. I gotta get some pictures here soon...
