| yeah, I guess you are right. I just hate it when you have to stop and go get different wrenches cause it is 12 mm not 1/2 or 7/16 | |

| It's rare to find standard and metric used for the same piece of equipment... I keep a metric toolbox and a standard toolbox... depending on the tractor or other item I'm working on, I grab the appropriate tool box. Yes it's annoying, particularly if you don't have a complete set. Personally, I recommend having 2 of every size... sometimes you need to hold the back of the bolt to tighten or loosen. A good quality adjustable wrench can help in the case of missing tools... One of my favorite things to do to noobs in the shop was to tell them to find me the METRIC adjustable... (I actually HAVE an adjustable wrench with metric markings on the jaws LOL | |

| Imperial measurements are basicaly based on 1/2 's... No mater what the bottom of the fraction, if ya need smaller, measurements, double the bottom number and work from there. This gives a much easier manner of measurement when you get differences that are smaller than a millimeter, yet larger than a micrometer. It's simply the diff between analog and digital lol

Micrometer is a tool http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Micrometer
Earlier i had a caliper with both mm and inches on, that was schwwwweeet. thus tolerances for metric are well and truly too much. like .5mm+- its still alot of space. and thunder, a micrometer is also a mesurement lol. it's .001 of a mm i do the same thing as you to lawren. I have a metric and imperial set of tools. not enough to make up another tool box though

Not sure what a strand of hair is, and to lazy to google yeah i got my first imperial set when i got the JD 110.

yeah i got my first imperial set when i got the JD 110. ok, the .5mm means half of a millimeter and the +- means tolerance, so give or take .5 of a millimeter. and the .001 can be used in cylinder boreing and carby jetting and other small stuff like that
