I got a couple of off brand tractors for free there pretty old. One which is a rally by roper came with a 16 hp briggs. I cant find any thing anywhere on it. Id like to get it running it has no spark for somereason. Its a 1978 or 79.
Model- 401707 type 0103 01 code- 78110812
Anyone have like a manual or something for it online?

I cant find much in the way of service manuals but I did find a parts breakdown :

http://www.partstree.com/parts/?lc=briggs_and_stratton&mn=401707-0510-99&dn=6931008AA

and a wiring diagram :

A quick glance at the Model Type Code tells me what you probably already know- Briggs 16hp 40CID Oppy Twin. Vertical shaft, splash lube, 12v start and charge. 1st generation, circa 1978. Without a visual inspection, I am going to assume 3-screw fuel pump, adjustable main jet carb, 2-piece manifold, cast-in-flywheel blower fan, breaker points ignition.

Given the age of the engine and the ignition type, the first place I would be inclined to look is the breaker points. Points systems do need periodic maintenance. For this reason, they do tend to be hated by many, but it is also a fact that they deliver a longer duration spark. The Briggs opposed Twin manual should cover your engine and features. Here is a link to your manual online- https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B6NaqjIxWV1ybHphbUNTQUNNR2s/edit

Ask any questions you may have.

Yes- the link works for me every time. Try giving it a few minutes, it's a fairly large PDF.
