I have a new to me mtd 2 speed trans with reverse that I'm wondering if anyone has any info on. Was in a 92 mtd variable speed with 18 hp opposed briggs. Mow thinking about putting it in my 86 mtd 18.5 hp opposed that is my work horse around the yard. It has a 5 speed in it now but could use the 5 speed in another build and thinking if I get the pulley ratio right it should be just fine right??? Not looking for speed but want to be able to pass a snail to and tow logs with the sleeve hitch and chair train when we go down trails towing about 6 chairs one is a double seater and be able to plow snow in the winter with it. Any info would be appreciated. If you think it will work or go terrible please let me know

Ok thank you. Both rims are stuck on and when I put it on its side water was coming out. Got measurements of bearings that way if it is worth it I can order them all gears moved very smooth before I noticed all the water in it surprisingly hoping to be able to press the axle shafts out at work tomorrow the pulley on it was splined amd had a nut on top. I never ran into a input pulley being splined yet. Only been building for a little over a year and a half and been looking on here alot lately since I came across it for advice got so many questions but trying to be patient and handle one at a time got lots of ideas of multiple projects I want to build. Already accumulated around 15 mowers some run some for parts from 60s to late 90s maybe 2000s. It's an addicting hobby only with there were events closer to me

Being out of an MTD I'd imagine it's a Peerless, have a look for the tag on the case and I'm guessing you'll find it's either a 820 or 900 series, either of which should do what you're wanting of it although the 820 would be the better of the two. It's going to take some work to get it cleaned up, hopefully it looks decent under that grime! Lol
Can you find another tag on it? Could be glued or etched into the casing itself (on a flat spot), the one you posted is the MTD tag and not the manufactres.
Number on the differential is the same as a number etched into the casing. Jusy don't have a Photo of it right now. Then hope the other photos help also
