+1 on that. Definitely adjust the valves before pulling the engine.
Also it's not really a good idea to use a metal starter gear if the old was a plastic one, because the flywheel ring gear could be plastic and the metal starter gear will tear it up eventually.

Been away off and on for the past week. In-laws have had an intruder off and on the past week. They noticed some stuff moved around and misplaced. They have security cameras but didn't see anyone. This past week I have religiously watched every minute of the footage still on the system. I found the dude on their property at least 2 times last week. I really believe he was on there at least one other time.

That's creepy!
An aquaintance of mine recently had a break in, they stole his truck, all his tools, fishing gear, and even tried to take his full size tractor. The nerve of some people....

I can't say on a public forum what would happen to that guy if he came on our property late at night. I think most of you can guess pretty well though. Hopefully what would happen to him here is legal in OK.
And if the consequences of coming on the property after midnight aren't as severe as I'm thinking, the trespasser(s) is gonna need an extra pair of underwear... Just sayin'.

That's the way my work is. I would have joined back in 2014 when I started lurking on the site. I never remembered half the time what the site was when I got home. I finally joined up in 2016 about the time I bought Li'l Red.

Yeah I could buy one for 13 on Amazon so they are pretty cheap. I was just wondering if it would work for the kicks and giggles of it, cause I get crazy ideas on the regular. I do appreciate the advice though, soon I will start accumulating some small engine tools, my next Briggs order I will pick up a flywheel puller, ring compressor, valve spring compressor, etc. Anyway, thanks for the input.

Also I had an idea for another thread game and I thought I’d ask and see what people thought. You post a reference or quote to small engine/ATLT culture (be it YouTube, the forum, etc, as long as it can be pinpointed to a specific source) and people try and guess it. Then, the person who gets it right (has the post “liked” by the person who posted the reference posts another piece of trivia and the process repeats. What do you think, and would it be logistically feasible?

I’ve got a freshly rebuilt throttle body off the 350 I blew up, I’d sell it to ya, and I can bring it down whenever I bring that simplicity to ya. I have no use for it, as the only tbi truck I’ve got is a 4.3
