So that's where chocolate milk comes from! Wonder if it taste as good as it smells? lol!

Anyways I went ahead and filled the trans up with some good used 15w40 diesel oil I had saved from my trucks last oil change, I normally keep about 5 quarts of it kicking around for stuff like this instead of wasting new oil on it.

Jacked it up on some jack stands, fired it up and ran it through all the gears for about 15 minutes, then drained it back out.

Looks a whole lot better than what it did before.

Filled er back up with some regular 90 weight GL1 rated gear oil that's supposed to be yellow metal safe. These 3 speeds take 2 quarts and it's a lot easier to take the shifter out and fill it through the shifter hole.

Here's a good look a what is most likely the culprit to the water getting in, Mr. Shifter Boot (pretty common issue on these wheel horses). There is also a hole in the front these transaxles that gets butted up against the frame but I plugged it off when I installed it.

I remember the shifter in the peerless 2300 on budgie was super loose, I’m sure it let a bunch of water in. Wish I had a wheel horse lol

These vacuum caps must be made out of that good California rubber cause they fall apart within a few months. Had this happen with the vacuum advance on my truck too and got tired of replacing them so I just did the ole put a hose on it and shove something in the end trick. Style points for finding a black screw with a head the size of the hose! Cool Got a little too fancy and decided to tie it out of the way using one of these little plastic holder inner things.
