Red is the final color. Not much flex right now. It's pretty tight.

@mightyraze it`s looking like a pretty nice Project. Murray Lawn Mowers are pretty tough built, so they should last a long time.

I'm hoping it lasts.

I was planning on reversing the engine, but now I do not think I want to or need to. I have started some minor steering stuff. I need to clean up the gears and repaint. I also need to create a new drag link. I may need a couple bushings for in the frame.

So I have Kal up on it's hind end again.  Doing some planning on the steering.

Cut my yellow link at the blue X,  Add another brace where the green is.  I have a round barrel that I can press in 5/8 bearings that I plan to run a pin through.  I will have on the bottom the linkages for the tie rods.  On the top part I will have a removable shaft that will attach via a pin for the steering link to attach.  It would make a lot more sense when I get it set up.

Makes sense to me. That's how your building your bell crank.

I think I have decided to do a mono link on my LT4000 Quag. I will let you get it figured out first and base my plans off of yours( not getting entered in the build off lol )

Redline did one too, if you are interested.  I got some queues from him, but going down my own path a bit as well.

I think if you are going to add another brace, it would be better down further, or, further back depending how its sitting.



I think it should be plenty strong even without another brace?

The brace isn't for strength, it's to attach steering.  Your placement does have me thinking and it may be a better location.

Are you going to use two tie rods going to the spindles or one continuous one? If you use two for the style of bell crank you're using the placement of it will affect ackerman angles so take that into big consideration. As the bell crank turns it effectively shortens the overall tie rod length. This toes in the inside tire when you're turning which is great for proper handling, but you don't want too little or too much ackerman either.

Well sure if I could afford some of those coils like red has I wouldn't hesitate lol

Yeah, I am keeping a close eye on placement as to not mess up steering.  2 rods.  I just have 1 on it right now for moving it around.

You and W I believe are in the tester group for the phone app?

Red's MTD is a great reference point, mr.modified did a 1-link on his Simplicity as well but due the the Photobucket issue his Simplicity thread has no picture. Coils and shocks like Red had would be a great option for a flexy solid axle front end as opposed to coilovers that are designed for an IFS setup, but either way works.

SWEET! I was at the TSC tonight to get dog food and a new wheel for the pooper sweeper. I needed 2 but they only had one. I may hit the other one nearby for it. While at in the isle, I looked up on the top overflow shelf for another wheel. They did not have one, but they had the seat I wanted for Kal-EL marked 50% off! Then I got another 10% off that with my neighbor coupon.

I need like 6 new seats......

Sweet! I've been lucky; Mutt, Orion, and my LT16 all have nice rubber seats. Have a few of the other foam ones though, and two of them are still in good condition. The one that isn't is a high back(on the mtd Craftsman) and I just cant change that out

@MightyRaze You should have bought a lotto ticket while you were out since you’re so lucky. We all gripe about TSC prices alot but they have a great clearance section,”stock your shop” deals, occasionally you find something marked down like your seat, and of course you might see a cute cashier too..

Back on topic, I hope to get working again soon on the build.

Got a little done tonight. Got the topside part complete for the steering arm, and wrapping up for the tie rod side as well, I did end up getting it about 1.5 inches short. That should be a fairly easy fix. Ended up mounting my barrel for my pivot to the front brace behind the axle.

I am hoping to have Kal on 4 wheels by the end of this up coming weekend I hope. Then my build should start kicking into gear, depending on weather and temperature. Looks like we are starting that upward climb into spring here in OK.
