Hahaha, we'll see about that one Beal. I do wanna add lights of some sort though, like on a bumper (That I have yet to make) or something.

I think it came out great. It's definitely a Ford with that front end on it. You got to figure out a rear suspension for it now.

Thanks prancstaman! I'm pretty proud of it aha. Rear suspension would be sweet, but figuring out the darn shifter would be a nightmare I bet. Probably still possible though...

Well the drive pulley kept falling off of the Ford recently, and the crankshaft threads are stripped so I couldn't put a bolt in the ends. What I decided to do was simply drill and tap a hole for a little bolt to use as a set screw.





Works pretty good!

Then this happened....




Yup, cleaned off the starter gear teeth pretty good... I'm gonna get a new gear and then use this trick to prevent it from happening again:



Hopefully that works out, we'll see I guess.

Sucks about the starter man. Hope that trick works for you. I've heard once an OPPY eats a gear that they just continue to eat them. I have been lucky so far in that dept.

Hmm, not sure why those pictures are upside down? But yeah, the aftermarket startes are the ones known to do it I think. That's why I would like to try that trick with the mounting hole, cuz it would suck to have it happen every few months hahaha.

So they are saying the gear does not engage fully because it is too close?  Hmm.... Good to know.

Too far away I think. If you look at how the hole is being carved out a bit that would allow the starter to move just a bit closer. I'm guessing if the gear isn't quite close enough it could possibly skip, and once that happens it's over haha.

Huh... You know I have 7 or so oppys, lots of spare parts, but I might do some preventative maintenance.

I think the problem is only with aftermarkets starters, but I'm not positive.

We have our starters have a .025 to .060 gap of clearance for proper mesh of the gear to flywheel. But that is on automotive engines. Should be a good gap though. You can use a big paper clip which is .040, and a small paper clip is .035, that's right in the middle of the clearances needed. You want either the starter tooth pointing to the center of crankshaft, or the flywheel tooth pointed to the center of the starter armature. measure both ways and use the smallest measurement between the 2. And that's with the starter gear engaged into the flywheel, when you measure gap at the tip of the tooth.

Well I decided to change the stripped starter gear so I can drive this thing again. I didnt end up modifying the mounting hole, but if it strips again I will definitely do it.

So here's the old one.



Apparently I forgot to take pictures of the process, but whatever hahaha. Either way I put a used one that looked almost new on the starter and bolted 'er back up.



Works great again!

Looks good lol. Reminds me, I gotta tear into the starter I got off the 21hp on the parts murray. Swapped it for one off one of my spare oppys, since it's almost seized.

Also kinda digging the rusted shroud look. matches the crusty theme you got going on the front. The silver looked sweet but kind of out of place IMO

Yeah he's driven it a few times since I put the Twin I-Beam on, he agrees that it rides much better now.
