Ford LT 110 Off-Road Build

I got some shocks from the shop today, should work nicely on the little Ford.



They were pretty rusty obviously, but thats why we have wire wheels! Hahaha

They look better now after a bit of clean-up.
Probably gonna paint 'em True Blue and leave the plastic dust covers that way they are. Should look alright.





They're exatcly 19 1/2" from the end of the stud to the bottom of the fork, should be perfect! Hopefully more to come soon!

Well I finally got back to working on this old girl today. She's been good since the last update, always starts up great, and the battery doesnt die now that we hooked the charging system back up.

So I took a shot at the suspension today. As some of you may know I planned on building a mini Twin I-Beam setup for it, since it is a Ford after all haha.

I took all the deck mounting stuff out first and then the front axle:









Then I got my beams and mounts all ready





All tacked on!



I had to bend the beams so the front wheels would line up





They turned out pretty good! I also cut the spindle knuckles off of an old front axle so I could use them on here, they're greaseable with nice bushings so they should work great on here.



Then basically I got working away and I forgot to take pictures along the way... but here she is! Haha







Turns out the shocks are a bit too dead to hold up the front end, so I'm just add some seat springs between the beams and the frame to help the old shocks out a little. But I think she's turning out great so far! Tomorrow I hope to get a couple of radius arms mounted, do some bracing, and get the steering all sorted out. She should be awesome when the suspension is all done! Let me know what ya think!

Looks good. That original axle for the FORD is a bit interesting.... I like the bend. Turn it 90 degrees and turn it into a drop axle.

As far as your twin I beam. You may need to put in some springs in there. I don't think shocks alone will hold it up even if they were brand new.

Thanks mighty! Yeah it's a really heavy duty axle, especially for a lawn tractor. The plan is to add a couple small springs.

Should be a pretty smooth riding trail rig. How much travel are/were you looking to get?

Yeah haha, I could always use more. But I actually got it figured out. Not sure if any of you guys remember those big coilovers I found next to the truck I got the steering box out of in my MTD thread, but I kinda mounted those up and they worked great! I'm currently changing the upper mounts to accomodate the new coilovers.

Hopefully! There's not gonna be any wild uptravel, but just enough to absorb bumps at speed. But if you jack the tractor up without any shocks the suspension has a wicked amount of droop! Hahaha.

Well I made some more progress on the Twin I-Beam setup today.

First I braced the inside of the grille so the coilover mounts dont bend the steel.



I also drilled and tapped the ends of the beam pivots so they could be held tight in the knuckle.



And here's how she sits now!









I still have to finish up the radius arms/mounts and get the steering all working again, but that's another day's job haha. It bounces pretty good with this setup and I think she looks pretty mean with those coilovers on there! Let me know what you think!

Now that came out cool!! You work faster then me, in a days work. That would have taken me 2 weeks to do, LOL.

Nice touch with the Ford trucks in the background, LOL. Did you plan it that way or did it just happen that way?

Thanks prancstaman! It did come out pretty neat haha. sometimes I get stuff done really fast, like the GMC steeting box in the MTD, and sometimes I take forever. Like the Peerless 600 swap in the MTD hahaha.

Also the trucks in the background wer just a coincidence, there are Ford trucks everywhere around here hahaha.

Well Sunday I got one of my radius arms all mounted up and it seems to work okay. I didnt take any pictures because I only got the one side done, so I'll wait 'til it's all done to take some pictures of 'er.
