Yeah I still have the sway bar links on 'er, but the more support the better haha. That's pretty much why I added the big ball joint rod.

The other I did this weekend was re-do my suspension. Basically I was having major problems with my front tires rubbing against the angle iron and leaf spring. Since the leaf didn't really do anything anyway, I've gotten rid of it and just kept the coil springs:






I went for a test run to break in the suspension, and it's way better now! Let me know what you think!

Nice! Those seat springs must be pretty hard to be able to hold up the front end.

Yeah they're fairly heavy duty. Darn near perfect for my setup!

How come you left the angle stick out so far?

Ah, can't exactly say I approve of those springs there, but if it work it works! Can always improve in the future!

Well it's shorter on the other side, the muffler was in the way on this side so I couldn't get the grinder in as far. If it becomes an issue I suppose I'll just remove the muffler and cut it shorter.

Yes but you're used to the weight of a twin, haha. This setup works like a dream for me!

Not too much new on the 'ol MTD, but my drag link ball joint was wore out and it kept falling apart. So I made a new better end for it. Also I made a new tie rod.

Is the tie rod still adjustable?

No it's not, neither was the old one for some reason. I'm going to make it adjustable though because she's got a wee bit of toe-in hahaha.

Oh by the way! For those of you that wanted to know, the timing advance worked great! I'm gonna try it on the rat rod as well when I bring it to school next semester.

Pretty cool idea with the coil filed out like that, I might have to try it on an oppy. Got an extra coil laying around that I know works. What did you scab that tie rod off of? Those ends look pretty heavy

Thanks! I always wanted to try it. I made the tie rod out of some round stock and a sway bar link I cut the ends off of.

Nice tie rod. For a temporary fix on my Westwood, I drilled out the track rod to m10 and put an m8 bolt through it. Works until I get proper heims. And I'm definitely trying out that timing advance trick on the new 12hp Flatty I'm getting.

Yeah. I suppose if you have an old coil you could keep filling until the timing is too advanced, just to see how far you could go with that idea. How far have you filled it? Just like a tiny bit?

Yeah sorry about that... haha. I'm hopefully gonna be looking into getting a new trans soon, and then the new tires and steering upgrades etc.

What are you planning for steering upgrades?

Well I plan on yanking the factory setup out and replacing it with a box and pitman arm, maybe a gearbox out out of a snowblower or something.

Mkay. Maybe grab a datsun 240z steering box

On a serious note though, I feel like a golf cart rack-and-pinion setup would work well on a mower, its just that you would have to run your steering shaft over the engine down to the front...but thats a little complicated

Yeah a shortened rack would be awesome CQ, but like you said, a bit too complicated haha. I got it all planned out how I'm gonna do it with the snowblower gear box.

And Matt, it's still got the factory flat half-gear and pinion gear. It's a decent setup, but she skips a bit sometimes hahaha.
