There is, from what I understand, a fairly high possibility of failure. Whether it's burning out the pump or blowing out seals, you're running a much higher flow rate than the factory had in mind. Who knows, though- some guys have all the luck.

There are a few things i know, with the newer 90's MTD hydros, there's a pressure release valve, with means if theres to much pressure it will "blow off" the pressure and slow you back down. I think by how you typed it is that you don't have that. Burning it up means running it harder than normal for a long time, those hydro will get cooking and eventually-something will fail. I have also heard of hydros actually blowing up, because all a hydro is is a hydrolic motor turning fluid and making pressure, kinda like a torque converter in a car. The pump will make so much pressure that it will blow itself up. All i can say if run till its death of if you dont want that go easy, but its going to make its life shorter. Just out of curiosity how fast do you go?

I had one that ran 1-1 ratio that I swapped and ran it 7 front and kept the 3" rear stock pulley for 2 months after I ran it chain driven for 2 months. That sucker would pop wheelies and peel out in the mud like nothing else.

you run a high chance of it killing itsself. like red said, it could potentially hand-grenade. not likely, but possible. what kind of transaxle is it?

Wondering about this myself I always thought they would not even go faster ... Like above says the mid 90s. MTD is what I had and it just wouldn't go faster lol but we got a 80 somthin kabota with a knarly hydro... A hydro on top of a diff (two different blocks of casing) the axles have hubs and there connected to the diff witches vertically connected to the hydro. So your saying they can actually be pulley swapped at your own risk ? Lol

It doesn't have any stickers. Lol. Neither of ny transaxles do. They all wear off from mudding and yes. They go faster. Not much but you gave to do a drastic pulley swap to see results
