Boat trailer mini project

So some of you know I have a speed boat, and I got a solid trailer for it this past weekend. This will be a mini project cuz the mower is about don't major mod wise. Heres my boat:

Worked on the fender today, replacing hub seals too. Rust and got bent:

Straightened it out and cut the cancer out

Looks like you need more heat in that weld. But other than that, nice trailer! Gonna repaint it?

No I was burning thru. and yes, white

for that, i would have used oxy acetlyene, only cause i have it to my disposal. but, i would have turned down the WFS. too much filler metal there

Oh, for true. Recently, I helped my buddy rearrange his place. I used MULE to tow a 6x10' landscape trailer with a few hundred pounds on it, and about 150 on the tongue. I was REAL nervous, but MULE didn't even break a sweat!

Didn't wanna break it! What can I say? I got enough work to do without getting into fixing stuff that's already done!

Started cutting bunks so it can form to the hull better, old ones were in the worst spots.



^cardboard transom. Now to remove the bolts that were in the bunks, replace them, and position and weld them back on. not shure my 90 amp can do 1/4" good enough......

Depends. If you're running FCAW, you should be okay. You can pre-heat, multi-pass, and bevel. One or a combination of those and you should be okay assuming you've a good idea what you're doing. Now- If you're using GMAW, forget about it!

Flux core (FCAW) or MIG aka gas (GMAW)

I thought gas would be better. Well I'll try it out and see how it is.

Generally speaking, you get deeper penetration (and hence thicker material capability) on a convertible machine in flux-core mode. Yes, you'll have to work harder to clean it up and make it look presentable, but it will give you the most bang per available output amp.

More progress. I made the holes for the original boat trailer jack mount from 1/2" to 5/8" and the new jack clipped right on. might have to move it. Cut the winch off so it can be moved forward. I might just get a 3"x3" tube for the front section where the tounge is welded just a longer piece. like 8ft becust this is about 5 1/2 ft.





When I cut the bunks off I cut a hair to deep into the actual frame, no big deal, maybe 1/32". I filled them in and it looks like the ol' 90amp did good job of pennitration, I might be able to weld the bunks back on with it.
