Utilty Trailer Project

So I have this old flatbed lawn tractor trailer that I've decided to make into a neat little utility trailer, mostly for hauling scrap and yard stuff.

Anyway I thought I'd address the axle first because it was pretty bent:


Not only am I rebuilding the axle...

Yep! Leaf spring suspension! This is the one I took out of the MTD.
But, back to the pics:

It'll have the c-channel slide method that the MTD kinda had.






Done!



Tested 'er out and it works great! I still have some bracing to do but I'm planning on working on other stuff on the trailer soon first. So stay tuned and let me know what ya think!

not really, but I'm gonna add a panhard rod just in case.

Also I have a couple pieces of angle iron for holding tool boxes and what not.

Well I've been using the 'ol suspension trailer a bit lately, but last weekend me and my cousin kinda screwed it up when we loaded it with scrap steel.
Basically the U-bolts shifted and the axle flipped forward.
But I decided to fix it by welding the flat steel to the axle so the U-bolts couldn't move:


That should cure that problem. I also thought I should make a panhard rod setup because the axle walks a bit.

I actually used the old tie rod from the MTD! Hahaha!

Looks good to me. That ought to take care of the axle moving or flipping again.

Yeah hopefully! Next maybe I'll make a latch for the deck, it's hinged to dump but there's no latch so if you put too much weight at the back it'll just dump all the stuff off haha.

Yeah, haha. If I let people ride on the trailer, I have to remind them not to sit on the back of the trailer cuz if I dont, they're going a$$ over Billy goat for sure hahaha!

Well I got the ol' suspension trailer out and about today



Also I finally got around to making a latch for the deck:





It works really good so far, I can sit at the very back of the trailer without touching the ground and the latch holds the deck down.

Looks good. Nice shot at the end. Also, if you wanted to "lock" it down you can put some kind of pin through the trailer and that hole in the latch.

Thanks mighty! Yeah I was thinking pbout maybe drilling a hole through the board and putting a 3/8" pin through the hole. We'll see haha, I need to make some tie-down points on the side of the deck next. There's nowhere to really tie stuff down. All part of the fun hahaha!

Been a while since I've updated this ol' thread, haha.

Not much new with this little rig, still works great.



The suspension is holding up great too, the axle hasn't come outta place or anything since I last fixed it.



I never did make a pin or anything for the latch, but it still works good, haha.



Just thought I'd post a little update I guess. I kinda wanna start working on this thing again soon, but I got other tractor stuff going on too so who knows when it'll happen hahaha.

I do like your latch idea may have to steal it for my trailer build when i get around to it.

This is the only build of yours I haven't checked out yet. Why am I not all that surprised that your trailer has suspension too.

Hahaha, well I don't know about king, but I'm definitely a suspension enthusiast.

An enthusiast you are. Have you ever thought about removable sides for the trailer? Like weld some pockets in there to slip sides into?

I actually have thought about that, like just some simple wooden gates or what have you. It'd be pretty handy at times I imagine.
