This welder works great, its welded everything I need. This is a 220-240 welder so it has plenty of power for welding it says you can weld for 18 gauge to 1/4in but i have welded all the way up to 1/2in and it has done great. I do not recomend run the Harbor freight wire in this welder, once I got good wire it works like a charm. I run flux core so I don't know how it works with gas. One thing i do not like about this welder is the short power cord so I upgraded mine to 75ft.

yeah i have the same welder, and i had the same problems with the same wire. im running hobart wire and it glues together anthing i haveto glue together. but i am pretty sure 170 amp is an over rating. because my stick welder on 100 amps will melt a hole in 1/4"

Long ago, I learned my lesson about cheapo welding wire. There's a reason it's cheap, and it belongs in the scrap bin. The good stuff is well worth the extra $.
