I have acquired a peerless hydrostat, I think a 205 model according to the serial number - but it seems an oddball. It says according to serial # research it's an all wheel steering model... and it isn't. It's a very stout hydrostat for a basic lawn tractor and I wonder how much abuse it can handle compared to others found in lawn tractors?

Probably the same as any other Hydro, good for lawns, not the best for offroading.

Ah, I was wondering. I had a sunstrand (I think) hydro in a garden tractor from the 70's that was an absolute beast off road or anywhere really. I was hoping since it was a peerless it was just as good. *shrugs*

It may be a very tough hydro, and would last off road. They just aren't good for speeding up, so off road at mower speed.

that's about what I figured. I know some hydros can handle about a 10% increase in RPM without much damage if any. Even so, I think I'll keep this one stock for my little boy's own mini-monster that's on the build list for this summer.
