I have an idea. Build/Modify a standard tranny so that if your stuck you can flip a switch or pull a lever and then it locks the tranny. Anybody got any ideas?

the only way i can think that would work is if u got an atv transmission and an engine so u could lock up the rear with a push of a button and im sure that not what u meant

i was thinking about having a chain run off of each side of the tranny to two axles each with a tire and in the middle a larger round piece that the other axle fits into and then drill a bunch of holes in it so that you can drive with a differential but if you get stuck you can stick a lawnmower hitch pin with a cotter pin on the end through the axle and presto its locked

Older bolens tractors have locking diffs - just like on a 4x4's front axle - twist the knobs and its locked.

Thing is about the locking pin is what if its underwater or burried in mud?

Be easier to make something you wouldnt need to leave the seat for - like air or electric powered lock for the diff- be something to experement with.

A lockable diff would be really useful but complex to make i think.
