Vertical shaft go kart

ok so heres my plan im going to be getting a go kart with a blown 5 hp motor an i have a craftsman with a good 5 spd manual trans and a 12.5 hp tecumseh thats a vertical shaft and im goin to take the go kart and mount the trans in the rear and the motor behind the seat and run either a pulley or take the pulleys off and put sprockets and run a chain(witch one do u guys think??)and put a shifter in to shift threw gears like a shifter kart i have a picture i made in paint so tell me what u guys think

cool idea, a go kart like that with a 5 speed and 12 hp engine should be great fun. I'd put a centrifugal clutch on the engine and run a chain to the gearbox. I can't see why it wouldn't work and it would stop any chance of the belt slipping.

Chain and a GOOD centrifugal clutch and it will work fine.

Don't forget clutch and chain need to be maintained.

do i have to put a centrifugal clutch on it has neutral and reverse and all 5 spds im trying to do this really cheap and im allready paying 50 for the go kart....how much would one be?

With a chain you will need a clutch.
If you are going for cheep use a belt drive.
