Alrighty. I'm starting with a 416 that supposedly ran when parked but was taken out of service due to a clutch pulley failure. This does have the 1 and 1/8" axles. I will be using a 1" spindle forward swept axle from a 520. This has a separate clutch and brake pedal which I think I'll like. Cons are I hate this hood design. I will use the tires of the Colt and will have to get a little bit skinner ones for the rear.

Now, that is a serious machine.

Wiring is toast on this. Maybe a fire? Anywho I bypassed everything and the engine fires right up. Let it run for 30 minutes. 10,865 acorn shells came out the muffler. Got the engine pulled and steering off the donor undone. I hate the looks of the 400 series more than the 500 series so I'm going to do a dash swap before the custom hood. Dash tower unbolts from the 520 but I'll have to cut it off the 416.

That's awesome! Did the axle bolt right in our did you have to do any modifications?
Direct bolt up on all the long framed wheel horse.
Spent over a hour getting crap off this dash tower. Can't get the wheel off so I can't dake the dash bezel off so I can't remove the gauges. I'll bust them out with a hammer. I try to save things but I'm on a slight time line here.

Just watched the video. Very nice. How much does it move the tires forward do you think on that swept axle? No chance for me to find one of those around here.

Thanks.
Probably 2" but the 1" spindles and roller bearing wheels are the selling point for me. It was moved forward to make room for a bigger deck and spindle size and bearing upgrades where due to needing to handle the abuse of a front end loader.

Holy carnage! Lol. Ya sometimes they really seize on, I had a wheel ridiculously stuck before, fought with it for a week then walked away from it for a few months but I got it in the end without completely destroying it.
Got the engine bolted down and it does appear to me a 16hp. I need to find the missing tins(I'm sure ive got them) and some bolts.[Got the engine bolted down and it does appear to me a 16hp. Most use bicycle brake levers but wasn't happy with that on the last build. I might try to do something else. Limited on room as well since the brake pedal is on the throttle pedal side lol.

Oh a new shiney wheel will be here tomorrow. On a side note I merges a old style hood with the 520 hood so it fits a 416 chassis lol. It's riveted to I can take and weld it but I almost like the riveted look.

There is no reason for a steering wheel to be stuck this bad.
Wheel Horse and Sears Suburban/Roper, personally a couple of the best garden tractors out there of their era. Both super hard to remove a steering wheel that has not come off previously.
Looking good!

Trying to read this was some serious deja vu, I would think the onan would take the standard metric bolts but i've never actually even seen one in person so I don't know.

The onans I messed with all used standard bolts. They were ‘70s models though. That hood swap really is something! Can’t wait to see what it looks like when it’s done.

I had 2 junk hoods so im not our anything of it fails. It has potential but all depends on my horrible welding to make it look decent. Good or bad either way its progress.

Little bit of fine tuning and I bet you can make that new nose look factree! I always hated the plastic fronts on those tractors, they look so cheap and flimsy.
