Pretty sure it's a Peerless 1200, looks the same as what's in my 1969 MTD Seven Hundred and they're both around the same horsepower and age.

**Edit**  Same shift pattern as well.

Ok thank you. Are they decent? Debating on locking it I possible thinking of putting it in my mtd 18 oppy that I been using as the work hourse around the yard. Maybe duel tires idk. Would be mainly for fire wood plowing snow etc. I guess my vision is a mini tractor / tow rig. And possibly attempt putting s peerless 700 in (eliminate reverse) as a 90 gear box to it for multiple lower gears. But if it turns out as a dud it would be fun to experiment and learn more in general for future projects

I guess any peerless is decent, having 2 in a row however would not be my choice.
You don't really need 15 forward and 5 reverse gears.
Even a JD 4066 has only 4 shiftable gears and 3 ranges.

I would just put a right angle gearbox in to avoid some potential drama

I'm pretty much using what i got around. Budget builds mainly I know the 15 forward would be pretty ridiculous but don't plan on using them all. I haven't came across a right angle gear box yet

You would be correct that is a 1200 series peerless transaxle
Here is a file that should explain any other concerns you may have
It has 2 partsPeerless transaxle manual part 1Peerless transaxle manual part 2

Id say do it 15 gears sounds like a really cool concept id definitely be following that topic. It might be a little overkill but then again why the hell not lol! imagine how frickn fast that could go might wana be careful as the steering would be way sketchy going that fast. If you did want to go that fast you should use rack and pinion steering from a go kart.

Thank you very much. On my other build I uses old tie rid ends from a 90s chevy truck and that made the steering pretty strong. It tops out at 29 and don't have any doubts in steering at that speed so I will do the same but build an entire from axle and new spindles

i think with your setup you will be going a little faster than 29 lol! the next thing would be the spindles add brass bussings or find a cast iron front end that can hold up to those speeds

It wouldn't really be going faster, the problem here will always be that you don't have any way to shift on the go.

But hear me out, clutch on both sides of the 700 and a braking function after 3/4 of the clutch stroke.
Suddenly you have shift on the go.

Sorry for the double post here and I am kind a jacking this thread but I think you might be on a way to solve the greatest question of mowkind.

What if you would put a sprag sprocket and chain to connect both gears in the rear?
That would eliminate the use for a belt and meanwhile you could simply use a single clutch and still be able to shift it without smashing the gears to bits right? transaxle - Looking for info on allis chalmers transaxle 102878487
